Isn't catching lightning in a bottle a plan? Asking for a GM, erm I mean friend...

Seeing as how we're over the cap now and possibly for the foreseeable future, this might be the only chance we have at adding talent at this minimal of a cost.

We have a lot of cap space projected for next summer. Eating into that now for a player like Kuminga doesn't seem wise.

I've already accepted the fact that the Bulls are going to do something dumb and give contracts to Huerter and Collins in addition to resigning both Giddey and Coby. We never tear down like we're supposed to do.

Some people like to point out that OKC got SGA in a trade, but they fail to mention that OKC was bad for two seasons and maximized those picks the best they could. It's how they got Giddey (which turned into Caruso) and Chet.

The Bulls won't even do that for one season.

The plan is to get long, athletic two-way players who can run and shoot, score in transition, and shoot lots of 3s. We also plan to sign underappreciated veterans to complement young stars.

The plan is to make the most prudent decision. To do that, they wanted all of their draft picks available.

They might sign Coby back or might not.
They might trade for a veteran or might not.
They might trade Vuc or might not.
They might keep pick 12 or might not.

The plan is flexible, but the focus is on getting players who fit the system who are value additions.

If the deal is a straight Vuc/Kuminga S&T for 80/3 or whatever, it’s a better blind dart to throw than holding Vuc for a deadline trade. Unless you want to play the longshot Giannis sweeptakes. Which I do. But frankly with the Luka Lakers sporting 2027 capspace, I think the Bulls’ FA hopes have been dashed.

I would just hope he doesn’t get more than 3Y guaranteed. Even $20M would be a definitive overpay, but he’s probably looking for $30M... You’re taking a medium-risk/medium-reward (unless it’s 4Y guaranteed, then I’d call it high risk).

I just have to stress that the guy’s adv. stats are very bad. The high scoring games, size and #7 draft spot are total fool’s gold. But a change of scenery does usually help a little (or a lot), as we’ve seen with virtually every Bulls prospect (Wendell, Lauri, Gafford, even McDermott). Unless they find themselves out the league… but Kuminga doesn’t seem Marquis, Valentine, Hutchison or even Pat Williams bad.

I think he’s more in that Wiggins zone.

I’ve also been thinking about how if AK was the Thunder GM during the PG trade, he would have gotten Jerome Robinson and a 1st for him

He would've gotten a few picks that are all protected 1-14 through 2095. Haha.

They've not really had a two way player their entire tenure here, so athletic two way guys doesn't seem like their plan. They've generally not prioritized good shooters and most of these past five years have been played with significant athletic deficits.

The plan is to make the most prudent decision. To do that, they wanted all of their draft picks available.

They might sign Coby back or might not.
They might trade for a veteran or might not.

This really sounds like we have a bunch of guys who are so-so, no real direction now, so we'll just do whatever we think is best at the moment. That's not necessarily bad if they can consistently make high value decisions.

The problem is they haven't consistently made high value decisions. They've been way too late on too many of their decisions, don't use leverage in FA to get their guys on better deals, don't seem to drive good deals with other teams, etc... To execute what I'd call a "value" strategy, you have to consistently find and execute value trades/signings.

It's not the worst gamble if you can get him for Vooch.

He can still figure it out and Billy can be a good teacher for these types.

The problem is that AK is a horrendous negotiator and this probably turns into a Coby for Kuminga 3 teamer, maybe with a pick added.

I hope they just take picks with bad paper attached but that's unlikely with this org

I think the equation with Kuminga is simple. If you can get him for only money and expirings - and maybe a 2nd - it's a good gamble. You don't have to overpay him with nobody having money to spend. If you have to give up meaningful talent or a 1st, pass.

ROFL, Kuminga is not bottom of the barrel talent. The Warriors wanted to keep him enough to make an offer, despite his being a poor fit in their system (and they're the ultimate system-driven team). He's 22 and can score in bushels when he gets hot. He's a flawed prospect but still younger than some of the guys who'll be drafted in the first round and has already proved he can be productive as an NBA player. You could have said a lot of those things about Giddey before we traded for him.

Any deal of Kuminga for Vuc is going to be way more involved. Stop saying Vucevic for Kuminga. For that deal to happen, we'd have to get Kuminga at $40 mill AAV. Any trade of Vucevic for Kuminga has to involve a third team and/or Warriors players coming back, at least Moody. To swap him straight up for Pat Will, Kuminga has to get $36 mill AAV. It would probably have to involve Ball, Jalen Smith or White.

From San Francisco Standard reporter Tim Kawasaki, specifically mentioned a "Coby White" type player might be the ceiling for a Kuminga deal. We're not giving up White for Kuminga.
