If they retain most of their age 22-26 guards and nail a couple of the moves on the margins, an elite coach and healthy Giannis could get them pretty far in a depleted East. But as it stands with the doofus we have on the sidelines and Horst running the show, it definitely seems like it’s Knicks or Cavs next year.
Eh, the elephant in the room is that even with a great coach Giannis' decision making just isn't close to good enough to carry us unless we surround him with 4 elite BBIQ guys, which we aren't close to having even 1 of right now. He throws away too many possessions every game, and the rest of the league has gotten so damn good at managing their macro team shot profile that the disadvantage we have there makes us top out as a first round team. With tremendous luck in 2021, and absolutely elite defense, Giannis morphing his style, and Khris going nuclear we were barely able to eek it out, and it still wasn't remotely impressive relative to other championship teams.
We just aren't even effing close now and haven't been since 2022 when Khris got hurt. Even with all the other teams hurt, we are a nothing. With Doc of course there is literally zero chance to contend, but you could trade Doc for Kenny A, Spo, Carlisle, etc and we'd still be 6th seed caliber team.
