yeah you know you were poking the bear, to come back and call Scoot defensive is pretty wild. Yeah he might be, but we should understand his team was leading game 7 on the road but having to try and finish it with their star sidelined with an injury suffered in the game. And another shot isn't gtd.
Eh but I'm told I'm no fun so maybe its all just a funny gag, but I read it like Scoot--its a dumb argument--and its not funny to me to needle posters who experienced that less than 24 hours ago.

hugepatsfan wrote:What do people think Turner signs for? Spotrac has the Pacers $20M below the tax with 10 players signed. They have to get to 14, which let's use rough math and say takes $2M per spot. So really call it $12M under. Moving Toppin frees $14M so now back up to $26M under (really $24M because the open spot created but moot since we're assuming Turner signed into it).
Is $26M enough for Turner? Keep in mind also that this only has them at 14 players with Hali out so potential for issues signign 10 day guys and things like that if it's too tight. They really don't have anyone else I'd want to dump to save money. Furphy makes less than minimum and everyone else is a rotation piece.
Over/under the tax is a yes/no or pass/fail proposition. Not sure moving Toppin even allows them to keep Turner and if it doesn't, is it even worth it to dump Toppin to still be a tax team?
Then again, only BRK has cap space so maybe they can strong arm Turner into taking less to stay under the tax?
It's been reported that the Pacers are willing to go into the tax to retain Turner.

Pre-injury though. Now with Halliburton out for next year, its harder for them to justify paying tax for a non-contender. They might still do it and I hope they do, but I think we have to realize just like with Boston, things are different than they were before the playoffs started.

At what price do Pacers draw the line with Turner? I'd above 25M for sure, but at 30M it becomes expensive...
Defense wins draft lotteries!

So you dump Toppin, but you don't open and close a contention window in a single season. They're not going to be able to replace Turner. The only guy who might be able to give you 50% of what Turner does over the next 2-3 seasons is Sarr? Otherwise they have to change their entire offense.

My point was that, in crunching the math, dumping Toppin might not duck the tax if they keep Turner unless they dump another rotation piece. So my question was would they still dump Toppin just go from manageably over the tax to still over the tax but just less so.

Well now I'm getting defensive!
I respect both of you, but when someone jumps down your throat over suggesting that someone could come up with a conspiracy theory over how the events unfolded... Somehow I'm in the wrong here because he's going through a tough time? From my perspective I'm not the aggressor here. I feel like I've been pretty cordial about this, but if calling someone defensive is over the line, I apparently have no concept of where the line is.
Sucks what happened. I'm not trying to throw salt in the wound. Sorry if I'm out of line and just don't see it.

I don't know that anyone is out of line exactly. Definitely not trying to paint you as any kind of bad guy. You've been around a long time, and I know you aren't trying to troll anyone on a day like that. Just that defensive line came across wrong to me.
But please don't feel defensive. That wasn't my intent. I should probably have stayed out of it so this one is on me if anyone.

Toppin would be perfect for the Warriors - not sure if they could take on the full salary, but would be an interesting use of some draft equity

New Orleans knew the odds of Hali playing on his injured calf were 100% and the odds of aggravating the injury are significant.
