Someone immediately reaching out to correct Stein after he believed Kelly Iko is very funny to me

Declining FVV's option and resigning him to a longer term deal seems like an absolute no brainer. Maybe do a descending value contract starting at like 30M-35M for like 3 or 4 years.

I think the decision point is the alternative is opting him in, just paying the tax hit this year in exchange for future cheaper years.

Like, if they agree to let's say $100M/3 as an example, Houston could say ok, let's structure it as an opt in at $44.9M next year then extend off that at $55.1M/2 years. It would hurt for this year but give them a lot more flexibility in the later years as young guys start getting paid, Fred gets the same money either way and $28ish million will still be enough for him to extend off of if it comes to that in two years.

he would also be a more attractive salary ballast as an expiring if they really want to go all in at the TDL..

I think you make that decision now. If you have a chance for a star PG, do it now. I don't think they want to go into the season without a new contract to the leader of the team. Especially with KD now in house. You want that roster to follow Fred so you make sure you've shown a strong commitment to him.

Yeah I don't see him just getting picked up and not extended. Either way he will be under contract past this year imo

Random smaller deal? Maybe a miss? Naji have slightly more value than Ayo due to contract/position? No?

Powell and Naji for Ayo?

Chicago gets a decent wing on a cheap deal, and buys Powell out to give Dallas some wiggle room from tax.

Dallas gets some breathing room to maybe use taxMLE on a guard while starting the process of balancing roster? Assuming PJ is kept?

I love Naji, but would definitely do this for the Mavs

Obviously in some extras went into KD but at a high level the Harden trade from Houston is looking like:

Tari Eason, Reed Sheppard, KD, two more suns picks, a nets swap and a Mavs pick. Pretty good!

So we've had 3 trades so far - Bane, KD and the pick trade b/w IND & NOP. With the finals over and the draft only 2 days away I am ready for the "most craziest ever" trade season to get fully going.

Prime Harden should have pulled more than this I'd have thought, not bad though.
Not keeping Allen really stung.

Anyone interested for 17 in exchange for a good player making less than $4.3 million? Podziemski is the best example of a player that comes to mind in this example

we're most likely looking at 3-4 top 10 picks when all said and done. Those Suns picks will be so high

Knecht?

LA owes more, I think, and 55 isn’t enough? Knecht is..fine, and was drafted in a similar range, but he wasn’t lights out, and he’s burned a year of rookie contract? Possible if a team REALLY loves him, though…

Yeah I'm not sure Knecht is it. Not terrible, but just not great...

I think 17 is about right.

He's a sure bet and locked in for 3 years at ~5m. I think Wolves are looking for cost control and certainty.

A lot of guys around 17 need development or just aren't NBA level. I think you're more likely to pick a worse player at 17 in this draft.

Can you think of a better player under $4.3m that would be traded for pick 17?

Agree LA owes more. He's also old for a rookie. Probably worth a pick in 20s only.

Could see them just drafting to lock in a player for less than $5m per year and for 4 years. :dontknow:
Heck, they could take on Sam Hauser until July 1for his smaller contract number for free…

As always, depends on the specific GM’s scouting or the player. But Knecht played to maybe roughly his draft value? But his cheapest year is now burned, and he’s only got 3 cheap years instead of 4.

I think sophomore players with certain NBA ability are worth more than the uncertain draft picks with an extra year.

That's probably how I see it differently.

Historically, from the GM perspective, it hasn’t appeared so? And, I’m not sure what certain ability Knecht has?what he’s exhibited shows he’s at least an nba player. I don’t think it’s shown that he’s worth his “draft spot”, but a year later, when accounting for the burned rookie contract year, cheapest year off the books.
