Man what an awful last day for Indiana.. lose Haliburton in G7 of Finals, but then.. also for most or all of next season, as well -- finding out the day after losing the finals.

Gawd awful stuff there.

I think a decent base lesson probably is .. if a calf is strained, probably don't want to play on it anymore for a little while (like around a week/till it gets better). Durant's to me was the leading example of that, when the calf issue came up in the 2019 playoffs before the NBA finals began.

What about Ruud, Korda, Kyrgios, Pouille (achilles tear), Corcic etc. all suffered major lower body injuries that have sidelined them recently.

https://www.atptour.com/en/news/pouille-february-2025-injury-news

Ruud's been playing consistently, 33 matches this year, so nothing serious.
I assumed Kyrgios was retired, he's hardly played a match in 3 years!
Pouille too, didn't know he was on the tour...

Ruud, Kygrios and Pouille are only 30 years old, not like they are in their late 30s.

Kyrgios was still very effective in 2022 but has been hampered due to injuries...

Anyways your theory that major pros don't get lower body injuries is bogus...plenty do...but in basketball it's more frequent because it's a contact sport that relies on more intense and explosive lower body movements, and a higher risk of weird landings when jumping.

That's because you didn't read :D i said "serious leg injuries" which means leg injuries that end your season...
I think even if you eliminate the contact injuries and just count the non-contact injuries, basketball players still have a lot more season-ending injuries than tennis players.
And basketball players are mostly standing around waiting for a 3-pointer, and their games are only 48 minutes which they only play about 34 minutes of!

So I was kinda expecting the same thing here, where they report the injury and say he's already gotten surgery. JT was in NYC when it happened and went straight to Dr. O'Malley. I suppose Hali being in OKC changes things a bit.

Anyway, I've said it like 5 times already, but really sorry Pacers fans. They've come a long way with the treatments and injections that encourage healing with this injury (stem cells, growth cells etc), and I know Hali is going to come back strong. It's really not the death knell for athletes that it used to be.

Looks like the same surgeon is going to do the surgery on Haliburton. That's great news
An MRI taken on Monday confirmed that Haliburton tore his right Achilles tendon. Surgery is scheduled later today with Dr. Martin O’Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

I'm wondering if the earlier the surgery is able to reattach and stabilize the tendon means keeping the detached part from going through a prolonged period of less blood flow and potential long-term damage from it.

Yeah that's great news, both that it's Dr. O"Malley and that they are getting it done today.
Gonna miss KP but he's no Georges Niang.

Makes sense to me.

I honestly don't know the details to that level but now you've got me wanting to research it more. I know with other injuries they often wait a few days to let the swelling go down before surgery, but with achilles tears getting into surgery as soon as possible can make a real difference with having a successful outcome. (According to articles I read a few weeks ago when JT went down.)

East is wide open it is said these days but I don't see a third team would make the finals out of knicks and cavs due to Tatum's and Halliburton's injury.

Thought I read Tatum might be back next season but Hali definitely would not? More severe injury?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yeah that's great news, both that it's Dr. O"Malley and that they are getting it done today.

Dr. O'Malley did Durant, Tatum, Cousins, and Aaron Rodgers. He did the Pacers' Sumner a few years ago, Wiseman and IJax early this season. The dude must be good. The all time MVP of achilles surgery.

It's pretty wild that the Pacers had 3 in one season. IJax could have been a factor in these finals if he'd been healthy. We Pacer fans thought Wiseman was going to be a great reclamation project for us. He looked so good in training camp and preseason, he was our best center. Wiseman popped his the 1st game, IJax a week or two later. Nembhard and then Nesmith got hurt, both missed a bunch of time.

Nightmare start to the season. Then great in between, then nightmare end of the season.

Regular season too many games.

First round should be back to 5 game series. Maybe second round, too.

Year round AAU ball or whatever organization they play with as teenagers should cut back on time played considerably.

Wear and tear is destroying careers.

Neither guy will be back next season, if either franchise has half a brain.

Tatum tore his May 12th and Hali obviously tore his last night on June 22nd.

It's a 12 month recovery timeline, if ya wanna be smart about it.

I know Kobe was Tatum's idol and he returned in less than 8 months but the guy played 6 games before suffering another season ending injury.

You'll see both guys back to 100% in October of 2026. They're 25 and 27. You don't mess with your franchise cornerstone's long term health, in their prime.
