Stupid overreact to extension Dallas/Phoenix deal

Post#1 » by Texas Chuck » Tue Jun 24, 2025 12:31 am

Suns want to win now. Suns need bigs. Why not two of them?

Washington(less than Allen)
Lively/Powell(less than O'Neale)

for

Allen
O'Neale
#10

with Phoenix chipping in some 2nds to pay to dump Hardy on a 3rd team. Powell can also be dumped if they want a little more wiggle room.

This board tells me Lively is worth pick 10. And Washington is definitely worth Allen/O'Neale.

Suns get two starters at positions of need, and both young enough to be long-term pieces but ready to win now.
Dallas clears out some log jam, upgrades their backcourt and picks up a pick to either draft BPA or to flip for a PG.

I think the Suns should absolutely do this, it solves a ton of problems for them. I do not love it for Dallas. I have PJ > Allen + O'neale and Lively > 10. This is a nice draft, but I don't think it is deep enough you assume that you'll do better than Lively at 10 (you *might*, obviously).

Dont think lively is worth 10. Agree PJ > Allen so i think OP is close.

I don't think Lively is worth more than 10, which probably means he is worth around 10 if you have him > 10 and I have him < 10.

I hope Dallas keeps one of PJ or Lively..

I think value is fair in OP. Would probably try to get Richards involved somehow?

if the Suns can get both PJ and Lively out of pick #10 they absolutely should do it. Dallas should aim higher

Is Lively better than Maluach or Queen? Probably. But does he have = value? IDK
I think with Washington added you are close on value though.
I think Dallas has a good team and I wouldn’t break it up like this, but if that’s the direction they want to go then it’s a pretty interesting trade.

And then they can turnaround and use 10 to acquire Hauser ;)

I think it’s fair.
Dallas could add the 2029 LAL first to ten and move up a little if there was someone they wanted to add with Flagg. Like Kon, Ace or Trey at five and Washington adds future value.

If I am Chicago I offer #12, Coby White and Dallas' pick of Lonzo or Dosunmu for Washington and Lively.

What are the chances that whoever is selected at No. 10 ends up better than Lively or PJ, and if that happens, when does it happen?

It seems premature to re-set the roster this hard with both AD and Kyrie still on it. At least get.a sense of where Flagg is at in terms of being NBA ready. If he's ready now, why are the Mavs re-setting anything? If he's not, then why are guys as young as PJ and Lively getting shipped out instead of the much more obvious candidates?

Lively is not available for trade. And the incoming piece are far from appealing anyway. Lively is easily more valuable than the 10th pick. And the Mavs want to contend. Then, somebody who can guard Wemby and Chet is needed. PJ's about to get extension (88M for 4 year) with Gafford (60M for 3 year) as well, I'm heard. So this is the end of the discussion.
