This will bother and confuse the hell out of me if a bunch of free agents re-sign with their teams over the MLE money

Who was paying him over the MLE? Not pistons, the Nets with Sharpe/Claxton prefer Gafford and would pay him 18 per?

Is this Mavs overpaying for him to stay on a rebuild vs a contender? 12 mill is quite a little premium for that.

He wasn't a free agent this summer.

I don’t want to make a overreaction thread but…

NY could surround KAT with Lively and PJ.. And Dallas could go for Bridges? OG? Matching salary using a third team, however you want..

OG overpaid. Bridges’ risk of him being the best player available in free agency next offseason? Would prefer OG and just make a nasty defensive closing lineup with AD/Flagg/OG..

Go find a backup rotation big using whatever matching salary isn’t part of this (Mitch is too expensive)

This isn't a lot more than the MLE... a full MLE deal in the offseason of 2026 is a shade under 4/$70M (17.4M a year)

I don't think Drummond is coming back to Philly and Embiid's long term prospects are in question. I wonder if something around McCain for Lively would make sense. Especially because of how many guards are available at number three for Philly (combined with Maxey already)

Probably had to do this because Anthony Day to Day will whine about playing any time at the 5. Waiting for AD to be out for 11 games with a pimples.

Apparently Gafford can be traded immediately?
If so then it makes one think this is done to actually trade Gafford for more value.

Dallas obviously need playmaking. Who could they get with Gafford and PJ?

I do hope you just come on here and vent, and the rest of your life is good, because you are one of the most depressing posters I have encountered on this forum.

It's been a rough year for the Mavs. I think you caught them at a bad time.

Not sure how that's possible, but others are saying the same.

I really want to keep PJ though. Great guy to have in the locker room. Stands up for his teammates, underrated defender, and an OKC killer

Appreciate it go

I can admit I need to be more positive and my bad if my negativity brings the board down. Ive been praying for more fruits of the Spirit. Like I've said, I was in the small camp who wouldn't oppose a Luka trade. I was growing tired of him being out of shape and constantly whining to the refs. But AD is the last guy I would have wanted in return. I work for the government with a lot of people who don't put in the effort or work which makes my job harder. That's what AD does to his teammates

Maybe Mavs just don't make any trades tbh.

PG: CP3 | Dinwiddie | Kyrie
SG: Christie | Klay | Hardy
SF: Flagg | Naji | Martin
PF: Davis | PJ | OMax
C: Gafford | Lively | Powell

they need to dump someone to get under 2nd apron, so they need to make at least 1 trade

I thought players that sign an extension are not eligible for trade for a certain time period. Is there something in the new CBA?

Underrated element here. Because he agreed now before the start of the new league year, there's no six-month trade restriction.

It’s not the timing that matters, so much as the raise percentage and total number years under contract. In fact, this extension needs to be signed after July 1 in order to be trade eligible. New CBA allows up to 4 total years under contract (which this is reported to be exactly, as this last week of June would count as a 5th season under contract), and a starting salary at 120% of the previous salary, which a standard 3 year contract extension that starts at a 20% raise in year one, and has 8% raises would turn out as $54.3m.

Sign it before July 1, and he has to wait 6 months. Sign it after July 1, and he’s extend and trade eligible.

He fits under the widened extend and trade rules under the new CBA. I posted right after you did here with some specifics.

Always teaching, thanks Scoot.

One of initial issues when this was reported was my assumption that we were locked into him for a while and couldn't use him in trade upgrades. This alleviates some of that
