Simons to Boston trade made no sense for Portland...

Now we have to deal with Simons in the eastern conference.

Well, at least they got back their first next year days before Hali went down.

Portland trying to win in the West? Huh.

Simons has very little trade value at 28 million truthers rise up.

Good trade for the Celtics though regardless of what you think of Simons. They clear a ton of money and get two seconds. These good GMs keep finding a way to win almost every deal and it is annoying.

Trade made no sene.

Portland isnt good enough to push chips in for anything.

Jrue is 35, has taken a step back, and $35m ... Just a dumb tade.

Yeah I don't really get it for them. Veteran mentor for their young guys and some potential playoff experience I guess is the logic. Jrue's contract just seems too big to justify even that logic though. Maybe more to come... don't know.

Simons isn't a bad get for the Celtics who I expect to be pretty good even without Tatum. May just be for one year and he is redundant with Pritchard, but not sure they expected to get anyone super playable for Jrue while also saving money and gaining picks.

Its more about the fact that they

- Got off that bad deal. THEY owed THEM picks.
- Got PICKS ALSO
- Got the better younger asset too

Damn just looks like a farm team move.

Is Portland Boston's G-league affiliate or something? Didn't they trade Jrue there in the first place?

100% agree, this was a slam dunk trade for BOS. The 2nds are 2030 and 2031 which can mean picks in the 30's. No one even knows if BOS can somehow keep Anfernee for like 14 mil per year only in the following summer also.

Head scratcher for POR but I think the idea was to add defense with veteran leadership and mentoring. And he is still kind of ballin' out at his age. Just very weird that POR didn't think they could do some magic with the cap space that was coming in when Anfernee left. Paid two 2nds, then pay 32 mil, 35 mil, and 37 mil in this trade.

The biggest winner is our forum. We dont have to read anymore how great and valueable Simons is.
Negative contract of Jrue and they even had to give srp..... Blazers fans wanted young talent and frp from us.... flowers to orlando_joe who if i remember correctly fighted with this madness.

I am confused why are so many people confused about trade..

Celtics:
- got 10 years younger player
- lowered their salary, now are $18M over second apron, but still have massive moves to make to go under
- it's already reported they will probably make new trade within next 2-3 days ( probably at draft night)
- they know it's a bridge year so they retool, Brad Stevens is magician.
- Simmons is nowhere near as bad as some people pretend, the same ones who would pretend he is superstar if Magic made trade for him
- Jrue is 35 years old, owned $104M in next 3 years
- Did i say Brad Stevens is magician? He moved injury prone guy in mid 30s without using first round pick, who is payed like superstar but on clear decline and has 2+1 years guaranteed
- don't be shocked if Brown is traded to Spurs for a haul
- White can be traded, if somebody is ready to pay Steven's selling price (somebody will ...)

Blazers
- short term salary burden that will be lifted after this year (Rob Will, Ayton, Thybulle expire for $60M off books, Ayton will probably be resigned or traded within next several weeks , or at trade deadline )
- Jrue is leader, Sharpe and Scoot can learn a lot
- Blazers showed last year that they can compete and they can win +45 games this year and fight for playoffs
- Blazers aiming for salary relief in 2-3 years when Jrue and Grant are lifted, up until that date they got start in Avdija on so cheap deal that Wizards should be banned from existence.

Celtics grade: A+, Blazers : C

This is just first domino to fall for Celtics, they will have very busy summer. They are ran by smart people, they will build team where Tatum can be plugged and walk back into contending. One year of retool to fix salary mess is fine. 99% of teams can't do that.

True. But Jrue and White are two really good defenders and they gave us some trouble last year. I think replacing Jrue for Simons makes Boston even less of a threat with Tatum out next year.

When did Jrue gave Magic "some trouble"? He only played 2 out of 5 playoff games.
Regular season? Magic beat Celtics twice with Jrue (2/2), but lost both times vs Blazers. In one of those two games guess who was leading scorer on both teams?

Celtics aren't competing for a title next year. Full stop. They are retooling. Jrue is negative asset due contract. People love to s*** over Simons that guy is now somehow becoming underrated.

And everybody's beloved Derrick White, before Celtics was part time starter in mid 20s on mediocre Spurs teams, and backup for Dejounte Murray. Not creative enough for PG, not good shooter for starting SG ( shot 35% for 3).

And everybody's beloved Celtics players from past: Marcus Smart, Rozier, Theis, Rob Will, Crowder, Grant Williams etc- pretty much can't play serious basketball anywhere else.

That's why Celtics are Celtics. They make mediocre players look good, good players look great.

Derrick White, no matter how much i personally like him, is still very mediocre player on it's own, without system behind him. He isn't that fast, he isn't that athletic, he can't manipulate defense, he isn't creative or imaginative playmaker, he isn't even that good shooter off dribble (38% FG off dribble , 24% in playoffs) BUT, he is elite catch and shoot guard, and Celtics manipulate system and have no issues him taking 24 freaking threes in two games in middle of playoffs.

That's why our KCP purchase went so poorly. You bought guy that played in system that gave him maximum that he could handle, you overpaid for him and asked him to do more, in "system" without system, where he had no clue where and when his shots will come from. And pretended to be shocked when KCP sucked.

Simons will either - get good/ better and perform for Celtics, or they will not resign him. Regardless, it saved them s*** load of money + they got some picks.

It's yet another Celtics A+++ trade.

This has to be a rental for the Celtics. Simons is over paid and due an extension. It'll be interesting to see how they integrate him.
