Why is Portland the one giving up picks?

Simons isn't a winning player and takes away from Portland finding out what Scoot is. Jrue is a culture guy that is good to have in the locker room for a young team with solid talent.

Portland FO has indicated for a while now that they (wrongly) think the team has a base to be competitive. Pretty easy to see why they did this when you take that into account.

Guess as long as PDX can’t get off Grant the long term deal of Holiday matters a bit less.

I shake in my seat at the idea of this team having a chance to pay Ayton.

feel like Portland should've gotten a FRP at least....good cheap trade for Boston but losing out on Jrue's defense is pretty big.

Not a huge fan of simons but that's a steal for the Celtics, damn.

Lmfao what is Portland thinking

And then we have 1 known Portland poster on here who will scoff at Lakers trade deals when theri FO does stuff like this

So unless Portland is getting a 1st for Jrue, then I have no clue what is happening here

I guess Simons had no real value, but this seems bad

Unless we're flipping him (again), I don't get this trade.

Yeah people always get seduced by a player who scores on bad teams

Evidenced by how many people are saying it’s a steal for Boston

With that said Jrue doesn’t make much sense for a team that’s not contending at his age

Simons sorta stinks. He is a shooter but does little else.

Doesn’t get to the line. Isn’t a PG. pushed around and plays soft. Per advanced stats he is a generationally bad defender.

Not saying I like Holiday as he is paid too much but Simons won’t be missed in Portland.

This literally makes zero sense for Portland.

A team going up for sale dumps a young player in an expiring contract for a bad long term contract for Jrue

I literally thought this was a troll bump from an old post. Now I reading that this is actually happening in 2025. Offseason off to a terrible start

Delighted with getting Simon's and 2 Second Round picks.

Assuming Portland will flip Jrue later on for something more they need.

Right now though it's an outstanding deal by Brad Stevens (saves us money/frees up cap space too)

You will always be welcome back in Boston Jrue. Thanks for everything

Im guessing that Portland is hoping it turns out like when Phoenix traded for CP3. They have a good young squad that was showing promise, and want a vet to guy them on a winning track.

But yea considering how much money Boston is saving, the trade should have been straight up not portland paying out picks

According to Bobby Marks:
To Boston

Simons: $25.9M, $27.7M (UFA, 2026)
The Celtics get off the combined $72M owed to Holiday in 2026-27 and 2027-28

Projected $40M in tax savings in 2025-26
$18M below the 2nd apron

Simons is extension eligible

To Portland

Jrue Holiday: $30M, $32.4M, $34.8M, $37.2M (Player, 2027)

Scoot gets his mentor. Literally the only angle I see for the Blazers.

Boston saving a lot in salary.

I like Simons. Could score at a much better pace than Jrue. And I guess that is valuable losing Tatum's 30 ppg for now.

No risk of re-signing Simons.
