Honestly, I’m not sure that this moves the needle for them very much. Yes, he does bring a certain pedigree to the team. But production wise, he’s been a third option for a few years now. And I’m not sure he’s even that anymore. That’s just my observation though.

I don't get why the Blazers made this trade, but it's good for us. Simons is a cone on defense, and even at 35, Holiday is the better player. The odds of us getting the pick increase.

Portland obviously thinks it makes them better. Hopefully Jrue has more left in the tank than he's shown recently.

Holliday is objectively a better play than Simmons. It's why the Blazers were willing to pay more and give up two seconds. Are you arguing they could have done better with cap space next off-season? I doubt it since Portland never signs anybody of note and more attractive markets/better teams will have cap space.

It Infinitesimally"gives them a better chance of making the playoffs this upcoming season and likely the next and then Holliday will have probably be worse than what he could get in cap space. But they can always flip him if this season doesn't go perfectly for them.

Blazers are starving for a leader for their young guns. I could see them fighting for a playoff spot next season if healthy and giving us our pick.

Think Jrue will get more out of Grant and help Scoot and Sharpe a lot.

Coward has to be their pick now.

Jrue provides a better balanced roster, fills a position of need, brings championship pedigree, and defense. They are going to be a better team with him, and only pumps up the value of that draft pick.

They are clearly trying to get better, and this is a addition by subtraction of sorts, but it's for the betterment of the team in my opinion.

The Bulls better not just throw away this pick, because they could sneak into the playoffs this season, and the pick could end up being in the 17-20 range, which is nothing to scoff at.
Why so serious?

Even at his age Jrue is the better defensive player and passer.

I think it'll improve Portland, but not enough that it was worth taking on his contract. Smart move by Boston.

Maybe moves like this give the Bulls a better chance at trading the pick for a late first in the draft on Wednesday? If an opportunity like that comes up it might be better to cash in than to hope it conveys down the road.

Or it could not convey.

Or the Bulls trade it for a late first on Wednesday and draft a player that they can start developing asap.

Who knows. I think AK should ask around and see if anyone would trade a first on Wednesday for it, but if not then just keep it. I might even use it to trade up if it meant they get a player they really want, but generally I don't think they should do that (I can't help but think of the Terry draft...Tari Eason was one pick before us).

Jrue has been on a steady decline the last few years. He's gone in almost every statistical category, and his efficiency has fallen off s cliff. At 35 years old, he's not improving the Blazers who need scoring. 2 second round picks is chump change and doesn't mean much. I think the reputation of Holiday is greater than the actual input of Holiday.

I'm not arguing anything about cap space. I'm arguing that this did not improve the Blazers. They're trotting out Scoot, Jrue, Deni, Grant (maybe) and Clingan. That team IS NOT making the playoffs in the West. We're not getting that draft pick.

The Blazers were 6.1 points worse with Simons on the court. The only rotation players with worse on/off splits were Ayton and Grant. The Blazers might still not make the playoffs, but Jrue doesn't have to be that good to outperform Simons.

On the flip side, I think Tatum might have a whole new team by the time he comes back.

I guess Boston was serious about not staying in that apron.

Jrue already gone. I can see them doing KP next.

I also dont think they will keep Brown/Tatum together much longer. The cost is just too high for them. Even in a good market like Boston.

Camara is one of the best defenders in the league and Deni took a major jump last season. If they get a jump from Scoot or Sharpe they def will be right there.

I always put Simons as a Coby value peer. Does this underscore how little value Coby has?

That Holiday contract was absolute sh*t. I can't believe they didn't have to give picks or other assets to be rid of it.

That said, it will definitely help POR. They need a POA PG. I think that Holiday will show a lot better in POR. He was a guy whose whole career he was a #2 option, and he went to be #5 on BOS.

I do think it improves our odds that their pick will convey next season.
