WCJ has to go!
His contract is killing the Magic and they don’t need him.
Someone said trade for expiring Vucevic and that might happen.

Ship Goga for vet guard and draft a big at 25.

Most likely to be traded this offseason:

Goga
Jett

Next, most likely:

JI
WCJ

Safe:

Core 4
AB
TDS

I don’t see us adding any 1st round picks or moving up in this year’s draft.

We will resign Moe and Caleb in some form.

Trade Suggs, JI and the 25th to Brooklyn, for the 8th pick and Cam Johnson. (Net savings of $30M)
Draft the center from Duke at #8.
Sign Tim Hardaway JR. & Chris Paul or Tyus Jones or D. Russell (should be able to sign Tim & 1 for about 20M total)
In season, trade Goga or WCJ for holes in roster.

PROs: Prime years of Franz/PB would include a core player on their rookie contract, can add more quality vets w/ savings, less chance 1 injury derails team, could get off of WCJ contract
CON: lose Suggs, kicking the can on a true starting caliber PG

Start:
Paul (or other)/Black/FA like Cam Payne
Bane/THJ/Howard
Franz/Houstan/DaSilva
PB/Johnson/Mo
WCJ/Maluach/Mo

Im sorry, but What?

So we trade our 24 year old all-nba defense caliber PG for a backup PF and 7'1 Bismack Biyombo? Yeah no thank you

Hell, ill say it, if Malauach, Kalk and reynaud were all there at 25, maluach would be my 3rd choice. I dont see it at all with him. Sure he can catch lobs and is a good rim protector, but besides that he provides nothing. Theres guys like him in every draft. Physical freaks who play good defense but arent actually good at playing basketball yet people draft them high because they expect them to someday learn how to play.

That's what you said about less expensive guys than Bane before the Bane trade if I recall. I don't think NAW commands more than MLE and there is a (challenging) mechanism to get to that. Let Weltman cook now that he's finally got his apron on.

There was a MIN fan blog with those deeper kinds of fans, like us, and some of them said 8-10 mil per year but others seemed like yeah 14+. And no one thought NAW was worth less than 8 mil per moving forward. That's his basement price. They have young depth behind NAW to experiment with so they want Naz and Randle back first then try for NAW.

Let's say management is all in and ok with going over the aprons.

I believe the Magic will have access to the full MLE by declining options. Can they then use the MLE to get let's say NAW, and also trade, let's say Goga and Jett for Gafford, or sign and trade them for, let's say, Bobby Portis? Or are there any restrictions not allowing them to do that?

Sure they can.

It will just take some belt tightening elsewhere.

If they use their MLE, they will be hard capped at the first apron.

They can do whatever they want within those parameters.

I know the Magic may need a change at center, but WCJ might be safer than AB and TDS honestly.

AB and TDS are cheap contracts from players who can provide minutes. We acquired the main piece a starting guard and thus I think they are safe.

People may not like to hear this but I really don't think there is a center better than WCJ who the magic can realistically get. I don't think he goes anywhere. Although I don't think AB goes anywhere, with that being said, AB and especially TDS can be combined with other pieces to get a better player or traded for cap purposes.

Don't be conflicted. Be pissed. What a stupid trade for Portland. Jrue is owed A TON of money for 3 washed seasons.

Certainly, the magic could have made a better offer?

I'm kinda pissed as a magic fan and I wasn't all-in on Simons either.
