Next trade I hope is Sam Hauser + 32 + future 2nd for anything in the late teens early twenties.

Because we theorized that Brad wants players who can be around for a 2nd Tatum run (Maybe Jays run) after JTs returns from the injury.
Simons is 26 and the timelines fit. And Simons is a pretty good offensive player: 19/3/5 so just speculation on my part that Brad sees some untapped long term potential ... that's be my guess. But you're right could just be a financial move that doesn't really mean Brad has long term plans for Simons. I'd lean towards we want him for long term.

I personally don’t think he’s that much of a winning player and think Brad might just value him being money that comes off the books.

Think for a playoffs push and jrue’s leadership. Portland came on like gangbusters to end last season. Maybe they believe they are ready to get in this season now that they figured out how to win.

Although I should post this in the NBA draft thread, I thinking getting Simon means we wont be trading up for a PG and definitely not Jase.. so double win for me.

This team seriously neeeds to change how they play. Throwing a bunch of 3s is not it. They seriously could use a slasher type player. Simons is not that.

Based on the small criterium of Heads Exploding In The General And Trade Boards, I give this trade about an 8.5 out of 10, with a chance to venture in the 9s, if he exhibits any aptitude for defense or is moved at the Deadline for a First...

He does fit the timeline in terms of age and offensively he’s a good fit in Mazzullas system and gives Tatum and Brown a chop out.
Just don’t know if defensively he’s the type of player that Brad and Joe like playing heavy minutes.

what are the 2nd rders?? How much money do we save?
** Portland doesn't have a 2nd rder this draft. But I hope Brad can use that and trade up and get another 1st Rder.
PS with all the speculation, No one thought of this one.. BRAD > Everyone here![]()

I failed, lol.

Re: 2025 Offseason Trade and Free Agency Thread (Wow this is fun!)
Simons is entering his prime & has elite potential as a scorer/shooter. Makes a great sixth man, and we can move Pritch into the starting lineup (or can go big). May have lots of trade value at the deadline, if he plays well for us. Can't complain.
Blazers were likely looking to move him b/c they didn't want to give him the extension he was looking for. We probably aren't about to max him either. Basically he's a better Dennis Schroeder.
Has anyone reported what 2nd round picks we are getting?
It's likely a fluke, but on/off court numbers suggest that Simons was the Blazers' best defender last season.

Yeah. Doesn't make sense at all that they'd have to be the ones to pay picks to basically absorb a bad contract. Maybe they just want to free up the backcourt for Scoot and Sharpe and have Jrue mentor them especially on defense.

Jared Weiss from the Athletic
"Anfernee Simons had some fans in the Celtics front office when he was entering the league, so he could be a long-term play for Boston, even if he’s on an expiring deal."

I wouldn’t get too attached to Simons yet. I can’t fathom we stay over the 2nd apron and incur the basketball penalties of that. Still $19.3M to clear by my calculations so more moves to make and Simons is now the most obvious guy on the team to trade. Porzingis plays a bigger positional need and Hauser is a good value long term deal. Simons is the guy on the team they probably would most like to move now.

Big question is how will Simons fit with Harper in our new backcourt????
I kid, I kid.

Shout out to Jrue who was just a warrior for this franchise. Consummate Celtic. We don't win this title without him. Quietly active in the community behind the scenes doing work to support minority-owned businesses in Boston. This CBA sucks.
Simons is an interesting case. Right in his prime as a shooter/scorer who could fit in here on an expiring. Still you could convince me that he gets moved again in another subsequent deal. But at least he's another expiring to get us closer to under the 2nd apron.

and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

All things remaining constant, this is a very very silly trade for Portland.
Thanks I guess!
You don't flip assets to commit to an extra $75 mill over multiple years just for mentorship. Its as logical as signing Jerami Grant to 160 million/ 5 years.
