I'd be happy with this deal. I think he could get more then this on an open market as every team wants his archetype.

I like that we are paying our guys! Both contracts for Gaff and PJ seem reasonable. If we are paying them now, why the hell couldn't we pay Luka would be my question lol.

This roster construction will be all over the place and someone will have to go either this summer or at the trade deadline. No way this holds up. Purely talking from minutes distribution and money.

Whatever they do with Gaff after he signs becomes easier. More trade partners will be interested niw that he's locked in a contract and not a free agent that could bolt after a trade. Either way you look at it, haters would say it's Nico's fault. Sign him, it's an overpay, let him walk it's Quentin Grimes all over again. LOL

If Boston does it, no one bats an eyelash. If Mavs stack players 10 or 12 deep, it's all over the place. You gotta spend to compete. And it's Adelson's money, not mine, so I have no problem with their group burning their cash. It's supposedly for Luka's supermax. So let them spend.

AD and Lively won't play 82 games a year. I rather have Gaff there than Kylor Kelley. You play some G-league guy at center again, the fans will riot. No team has ever won a ring being under the cap. It's pay to play.

Boston had KP and Horford both being paid way more at the time they won. Gaff gets 18M, Lively 5M.

Gaff can still be traded. No 6 month rule.

So if ever he gets traded, then Mavs' parting gift is extending him to a new contract.

Simons and Jrue off the board. Down to CP3, Lonzo or Brogdon for Dallas. Maybe D'Lo?

Gafford extension keeps him tradable, and no longer expiring, basically boosted his value.

If that's the case he must know who he'll be traded to and there is something in the works.

I hope AD is the one being shopped and we hold on to the guys in their 20s.

No D'Lo please.
And I'm not understanding the fascination with Ball at all.

It just keeps option, he is still eligible for a trade and he's more valuable on that contract.
From Gaff POV, he secured a 3 year 54 contract, he could have waited till next and het full MLE (67/4) but he prefered the security.

Portland has done a remarkable job. Maybe they trade Thybulle after this movie.

The list of what point guard to get becomes smaller once you decide to keep PJ and Gaff.

It's basically a question of which team wants to send the Mavs a PG for Hardy, Omax and Powell.

You don't get it. But free agency barely started, so we'll see what they'll do next.

I was reacting to your concern about "minutes distribution and money". But you also dial it down to say free agency barely started and we'll see. So I'm not sure how to react now. I guess I'm with you there.

It's true that having a deep roster is essential in this new age NBA. But still, how the roster is constructed matters a lot. On top of it, 2nd apron rules severely limits the team for "the now" and for the future. This is the exact same reason why Celtics are having a mini fire sale right now.

90% of LA fans were happy Buss family sold the team but in reality, no matter how rich new owners are, under the new CBA their money won't even matter. Same goes for the Adelsons.

Nico will have to be careful. Resigning important guys is crucial but then again, he could have also kept Grimes and shot the team cap to the 3rd apron if it existed lol.... He didn't want to do that, so he clearly hinted Mavs staying under 2nd apron will be their priority.

PJ&Gafford in the 20M range are good.

PJ is absolutely a keep, Gaff will be a great trade chip in the future.
