Let me rephrase it this way. What sounds more enticing to fans of both sides.

We are giving you 4 lottery protected 1sts + 2 nobodies for your 3rd guy.

OR

We are giving you 4 unprotected lottery 1sts + 2 nobodies for your 3rd guy.

However, with your 3rd guy, we project to make deep final runs for the foreseeable future.

In all fairness if you are Memphis you are looking at that 2030 unprotected first and salivating. The odds of the entire roster being there by then? Low i'm guessing. So you can look over the aisle to Orlando and ask yourself if its time to tank with 2 high picks and initiate your own rebuild, or just use the trade pieces you have now acquired.

Grizzlies pov is clear and if i'm their GM i would never pass on this trade. I highly doubt any really GOOD GM would. Because you have to be self aware, Grizzlies are not winning title in 2025-26 with or without trade. But with few lucky breaks from that haul, they can shift team toward serious contending.

Their bets are:
-16th pick is very good value
- we drafted Bane 30# and just year ago we pulled out Wells with 39th pick. We are excellent at this
. Suns pick will be lottery pick
-2029 and 2030 are so far from now that picks can be their version of Nets/Celtics picks

Remember how the Magic were rumoured to be wanting to trade up into that range (10/11) before the Bane trade was announced? I suspect it was because Memphis wanted that pick to get Coward all along, but we couldn’t get it sorted before wanting to announce the Bane trade so Memphis found their trade partner on draft night.

Coward was one of my fav prospects, but I don’t think I would’ve had the balls to trade an unprotected future 1st to move up 5 spots to grab him.

Kasparas was probably the only name taken after 16 that I thought of as big value left on the board, had we kept the pick and not traded for Bane. Will be interesting to see how he goes in Miami - knowing their track record he’ll be a star.
