I'd bet they keep him. Simons was the odd man out in Portland. Lead guard was the biggest position of deficiency. Holiday helps with that in the short term and, they hope, mentors Scoot and Sharpe for the longer term. They're going to try to compete next season.

Does Iverson crossing up MJ make MJ a bad defender? I’ve never heard this about Caruso, it goes against everything I’ve seen and what all the advanced stats show as well. Be better!!!

Brunson has torched Caruso multiple games  not just a single play like you’re pointing out.
Be better spree!!!!!

You know Brunson is unguardable! He’s got Dream level footwork

Why do the Blazers want Jrue? That trade makes no sense to me. Yo Cap! What's up with your other team?

Simons stinks. Maybe a limited role bench offensive microwave but you can’t go far with him playing big minutes. Portland is going the HOU route with bringing in vets who play the right way.

He wouldn't just be dealing with Caruso unfortunately. Caruso doesn't even start for them. There is a huge difference between the Bulls' defense and OKC's. Brunson would have to deal with the waves of individual defenders that OKC would send at him along with their swarming team defense.

That doesn’t fall on deaf ears. Of course OKC has an army of defenders to provide varying degrees of difficulty for Jalen. I’m simply stating the fact that Brunson has, and will continue to torch Caruso. Don’t get me wrong, Alex is a great defender who gets away with absolute murder on that end while looking like Josh Hart on offense half the time. He’s a good rotation player/impact/intangibles guy but sometimes the flavor of the week on this board kills me.

I have no idea how Brunson would do against Caruso on OKC. Caruso missed both games this year. Brunson struggled the first time we played OKC. He was better next time in a blowout loss. I can't imagine it would have gotten easier if Chet and Caruso were available.

I feel like if Caruso was on the Knicks and he guarded everyone from Jokic and Murray to Randle and Edwards to Siakam and Haliburton while shooting 41% from 3 you wouldn't consider him the flavor of the week after this postseason. :D

I know this is vv off brand for me. And that its goes against the tone of this place, but I truly do hope he can recover and make a solid come back. The game is better with him in it. And moreso, I want true revenge. I want us to send him packing. Rooting for his recovery.

Very nice of the Blazers to become competitive just for me :) Something irks me about Boston getting our (Knicks) second round pick in 2030 though.

They're a fun ticket. They've been fairly cheap the past few years too. Moda Center has really good food.

Knicks usually come in the early spring. Just saying :D

Even if they don’t keep him it was a high way robbery deal for the Celtics.

I wouldn't call it highway robbery. Definitely one team got over the other, though. But I also think Portland is ran by a bunch of clowns.

Portland should have been the one getting draft compensation but I think this trade makes them better. They're trying to build with a defensive identity and Simons hurt that effort. They needed to move him. From the C's perspective, it's a flyer but mostly fake hustle while Tatum is out. I think they ultimately just take the cap relief and may even go in the tank this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if this trade has a similar effect on Portland that the Raptors moving Rudy Gay had over a decade ago. He was their top scorer iirc and they moved him and immediately improved with Lowry and DeRozan emerging in his absence. Blazers are hoping Deni, Sharpe, and Scoot take similar leaps.

I do not get this trade from Portland's perspective. I can maybe understand it if they were a guy away from doing something and a vet like Holiday could help but he's way past that level and impact. Not sure what they are expecting Holiday to do or bring to their team. Maybe it's more of a culture change and leadership thing?

I'm not a huge Simons fan, he is a bit of a chucker, but he is a 26 year old.
