Re: ATL - Jrue to Portland
I acknowledge that I am only a GM in NBA2K. However, I value age and contract terms wildly differently than NBA GMs. Jrue is about to be 35 and he’s declining and he’s getting three more years of pretty big money. And Portland seemed to want all that? I legitimately don’t understand.

And we would have had to attach a 1st to get off of minuscule salary of PC. Sometimes I swear this league is scripted how can they get off of that deal so easily. Portland WTF are you doing.

If that was us, we'd have to give like 3 picks for someone to pick him up.
It's not enough that all the free agents end up in big markets, but they also somehow get discounts on trades when they make them. Luka to LA is the extreme of that, but it always seems like bigger cities pay less for players than a team like the Bucks who have to give up a kidney to grab guys like a washed Jae Crowder.

Unreal. The "all it takes is one dumb team" adage remains relevant and true. I can't believe they actually got positive value for that contract. Portland's front office is a dumpster fire.

This is part one for Boston. They have a long way to go to get below the second apron. There's a very good chance Simons is traded again.
Adam Himmelsbach in the Boston Globe:
The fact that Simons is on an expiring deal, combined with Boston’s clear desire for further cost-cutting, certainly opens the door for Simons to potentially be moved in a subsequent trade. A league source said that the Celtics acquired Simons because they like what he can bring to the team, but added that the team remains engaged on all fronts as it continues to look for ways to upgrade the roster.

Jrue to Portland is a "culture" and "right way" move that looks bad on paper, but could pay off nicely.
Similar to Detroit inserting Tobias Harris (and Hardaway/Beasley to lesser extent) last season.
Should increase present value, and could increase future value.

Does Portland win the draft lottery next year as thanks for this Jrue trade?

Crazy we had to give up AJ Johnson and take back Kuzma just to get off of Khris's contract. Would have gladly taken back Simons for Khris, flaws and all.

So basically holiday has more value than we thought. Or at least he did to one team, maybe others who were outbid.
So is Portland really going to try and win now? That seems interesting. I cant even name their best player. It cant be Scoot, right?

Except Khris is broken down and Jrue is just naturally aging. Hes still a winning player. These are not the same things at all

Apparently Kings and Mavs also wanted Jrue. Omg what a dream for them. Three of the absolute dumbest GMs.
Thats why it happened. There was actually a bid war

I wish Horst would attack bad GM's but he's probably lumped in with that group of GM's you can work over in deals

Probably Avdija right?
But yeah, I think they were a .500 team for most of the season last year; just got off to a bad start and in the West, even .500 isn't enough. Once they found their lineup, they were one of the best defensive teams in the league and swapping out Simons for Jrue should solidify them as one of the best on that end. A little bounceback for Jrue or further improvements from Avdija, Scoot, Clingan, etc., and they could be an annoying team ala Orlando or even Detroit this past year.

According to Jared Weiss, the Raptors wanted Holiday as well.
Weiss:
Sacramento, Toronto and Dallas were all interested in Jrue Holiday, but he lands back with the Blazers team that flipped him to the Celtics two years ago. Rumblings started moving earlier this evening that the Blazers were serious about bringing in Holiday to fortify their defensive culture as they make a playoff push next season.
Anfernee Simons had some fans in the Celtics front office when he was entering the league, so he could be a long-term play for Boston, even if he’s on an expiring deal.

Re: ATL - Jrue to Portland
Watch Simons be an absolute perfect fit for Boston and turn himself into a legit asset that they'll either extend as part of their core or flip at the deadline for multiple draft picks and a useful player. We can cry about big market bias all we want, but Stevens is just a good GM. We never take advantage of the dumb organizations, because we're one of them.

Great question.
It could be that Jrue was brought in as a mentor for the young guys.
It could be he is being routed elsewhere (PHX for Beal and picks?).
I am thrilled Simons is gone. My feelings on Jrue are mixed. Love his game and professionalism, not crazy about age and contract.

This was a Billups move. He needs to have a winning season and wants a veteran leader he can trust. (and D up opposing PG's).
Classic case of a coach wanting his guy. Boston found the sucker who wanted Jrue at that money and somehow Brad Stevens got a useful player and draft picks out of it.

Spin this anyway you want, but this was a baffling turd of a move by Portland.
