The Simons piece was much less relevant to them than the getting off the remaining 3 years of Jrue's contract and saving significantly on the luxury tax piece.

Yea Boston just grabbed an athletic Dunk Contest champ who was also set to participate in an All Star Game 3 point contest. Who happens to be in a prove himself last year of his contract situation on top of it, that’s a pretty big W for the Celtics.

I'd been hearing podcasters argue about whether Jrue was negative value or not, i'd say this values him at about one first round pick. I am pretty skeptical of Simons, but I have to imagine he's going to be pretty good in Boston. Its just hard not to with all the offense(and defense) they have on that team.

Boston is the ultimate nature vs nurture team, or a rising tide raises all ships. They are also an interesting in that is talent or scheme that win games. Three coaches in 4/5 years...maybe its the abundance of talent.

I'm not convinced Simons will even still be on the Celtics before the summer is over.

They are still way above the 2nd apron and need to make more moves.

The ability to get out from a bad contract + in return get a player not in his prime yet that could come in and give you 20 ppg with the absence of Tatum. Oh and on top of that have the other team THROW IN two second round picks just for you take as the icing on the cake, lol man . Weltman got to pretend to be a GM for a week at least .

It’s not that complicated. This was a money move for Boston. They still aren’t done because they need to shed salary if they aren’t competing next season due to Tatum’s injury. Porzingis is probably gone too.

Jrue doesn’t have the value people think based on his past. His contract for his age and production is stupid, especially for Portland. Their side of the deal makes no sense. They gave up the better less expensive asset and gave them two picks on top of that. Picks that matter now with the CBA. It’s not like they are adding Jrue Holiday to a deep playoff team.

Not every trade is 1:1 based on talent, but the asset return isn’t even close.

Al Horford on a 1 year deal would be valuable for our young guys for a season

Does this mean Boston is willing to move Simons for. couple of 2nd rounders in the draft? Because we have them…

Imagine AS and AB as your back up 1&2…

Wouldn't this just put us over the cap this year alone?

Maybe we can't resign Moe if we did this on draft night, but other than that. I would roll with being over the cap this year. Get Simon's a chip, and then expect a hometown discount or easily replace him with a better contract.

Financial particulars...

To Washington
McCollum $30.6M expiring
Kelly O $13.4M expiring

to New Orleans
Poole $31.8M this year, $34.0M in 26-27
Bey $6.6M this year, $7.0M in 26-27

So the Pelicans take on and the Wizards get rid of $41M for 26-27.

love what the Wizards are doing so far.. Sarr, Carrington, Coulibaly, George & 6th pick could be a fun starting 5 full of youth. Vets of Middleton, Olynk, Smart, Brogdon, McCollum as vets.

Brogdon is a FA and isn't likely returning. The rest of those are there though and they're all on expiring deals.

I give kudos to their new front office for cleaning up their cap sheet and giving them the flexibility to trade away those potentially desirable veterans this year at the trade deadline.

But I mean they still don't have even one single legit high end building block on their roster. They're going to be very bad until they can find some actual all-star caliber talent in the draft.

they cleared up for 100M in cap space come 26 I think. They'll probably be bad again next year but its due to youth vs overpaid dudes. They could make a Pistons like step in 26 if they hit on this draft pick. A Carrington Johnson combo would be fun to watch that's for sure.

Most of the league will have significant cap space next year.

We are heading into one of craziest draft nights in terms of trades in past 10 -ish years.

Lot of teams feel comfortable about idea of fighting for a title. I have this thought for a while. Feels like we are entering some "random championship era" ,where every year we will have new champion and teams will just raise and fall in terms of 3 years.

We've been in that era for a long time my friend

A different team has won the NBA title the last 8 seasons. Longest streak of that happening in NBA history.
