2025 General Offseason Discussion Thread (NBA news, random thoughts, etc.)

Post#1 » by bisme37 » Mon Jun 23, 2025 9:49 pm

Welcome to the offseason, RGM pals!

This is a place to post any minor NBA news that perhaps doesn't require a separate thread. Tweets hyping your team or favorite player. Something you saw on the internet and want to discuss and/or make fun of. Etc.

Also feel free to post your random thoughts on the NBA, or your life in general, or whatevs. I'd like the thread to be mostly NBA related, but it's also a place to just hang out and have fun with your RGM friends over the summer.

Just please no politics or anything that's going to stir up drama and get the thread locked. Cheers!

I remember Maria Taylor left ESPN a few years back after her scuffle with Rachel Nichols or whatever it was. She went to NBC, which was odd to me since they weren't really covering the NBA at that time, but now she will be the main studio host for NBA on NBC.

I doubt Pelicans would trade Herb for only 1 first, a guy should be worth multiple firsts IMO.

Some random off topic thoughts from me.

Women Eurobasket is happening right now and quarterfinals start today. Lithuania made quarterfinals but we will face powerhouse France, so not much chance there. Still tho, this is our first Eurobasket in 10 years, so very good showing so far, and top 5 teams qualify for World cup, so even if we lose today, we still have a shot to make world cup.

Buzzerbeater.com manager game play offs start today also, and I am very exited about that too.

Last two bets I made hit. But My latest active bet is Ace Bayley going third in a draft, and it seems like I will be losing that one. I bet on Lithuanian league and watched their finals, I usually do not watch Lithuanian league, not my thing, but final series were great, arguably the best in history. It is best of five and my team was losing 2-1, and in game 4 on road, they were down 2 with few seconds left, but Sylvain Francisco hit a game winning buzzerbeater 3, tieing the series, and they won nailbitter game five, as Lithuanian media say, this series was absolute cinema. Champion team still let their head coach go, because despite the win, the level of play was pretty bad and I think it was right decision.

It seems like we might get new WItcher 3 DLC, a 10 year old game. Thats my favorite game ever, so I am very glad to hear this, but its just a rumor so far.

I still haven't finished Clair Obscure : Expedition 33, but SkillUp already made almost mini documentary on it on youtube, it is one of those life changing games, absolute masterpiece.

I am still planning to buy new PC, but still haven't done it.

I heard F1 movie is good, but I am one of those insuferable fans who see that the story is Hollywood non sense, and get annoyed that its even exist. I do not watch movies anymore anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Looks like the Celtics just fleeced the Blazers in a trade. Portland accepted an aging Jrue Holliday in exchange for Anfernee Simmons and two 2nd round picks.

If Simmons can take the next step, it'll go a long way in filling in for Tatum next season.

I originally thought Mathurin could be traded for him, but with Haliburton getting injured and now being out for the season I don't see Indiana moving any of their young players. It re-calibrates their plans because they have to know this isn't going to be a season that ends in the NBA Finals without their engine.

As for Herb, the other team I thought about was Detroit. The Langdon connection as he used to work for the Pels and they can easily move a second year Ron Holland and Simone Fontecchio for Herb. Holland is only 20 and cost controlled, which is why it makes sense for the Pelicans. Pelicans fans have pushed back on this, wanting him to be a lifer, but the guy only makes like 14 million per year. He's so underpaid and the team is going nowhere. Better to move him now for some value and let him help a team with real aspirations.

its so strange to see the Twolves sell for 1.5B right after the lakers sold for 10B. im guessing the price was locked in years ago and thats why its so low? if thats true, i wonder what the team would be worth if it had been bid on today post Lakers/Celts sales?

IIRC, she wanted Stephan A Smith type of contract after that situation. Tough to get that type of deal. Even though SAS is a loudmouth, but he’s literally on call 24/7 for ESPN.

Random thought:
KD, Westbrook, Harden, CP3, Steven Adams have all had success in the league for years, but also have all played for OKC and HOU (KD's trade pending).

How would these teams fare vs each other... Because we can make a kind-of standard lineup with all 5 lol

OKC-
2020 Paul
2016 Westbrook (MVP)
2012 Harden
2014 KD (MVP)
2017 Adams

HOU-
2018 Paul
2020 Westbrook
2019 Harden (MVP)
2025 KD
2024 Adams

Does Charlotte take Ryan Kalkbrenner? They just gave away two of their centers to Phoenix and only have Nurkic.

I went through the trade scenarios for RJ Barrett and none are good (especially after Washington and Charlotte picked who they did). The only team I could see trading for him now would be the LA Clippers with something like Bogdanovic, Kris Dunn and Kobe Brown. Otherwise, I'm not seeing where he fits with anyone. He could start in LA next to Harden and Kawhi and put Norm Powell back on the bench.

Raptors may just be stuck with RJ.

Edit: One more. Portland and Charlotte trading with each other. Rob Williams (just for another big, Portland doesn't need him) for Okogie and Daquan Jeffries, who probably get waived because there are no minutes for either guy in Portland.

Sixers would love to get RJ (plus whatever) for Paul George

You think Raps would do that though? He makes like double RJ does.
