Yeah, I know Tatum will be out, but let’s just get to a good seed in the playoffs and see what we do when Tatum gets back.

People seem to forget that Tatum has a **** career altering, maybe and most likely season long injury.

Stop dismissing it. You think this dude is gonna come back in March and ramp it up to 100 for the playoffs?

Give me a break.

We’ll see.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I'd prefer to keep KP and extend him at a lower salary if possible.

def could be a win win, Hauser can gooooo. somehow manage to keep KP , stay competitive and wait on JT's return!

No. Simons, KP or some other higher salary guy has to go out.

You expect for Tatum to do what Durant could not? And on top of that you expect for him to be conditioned for a playoff run when he's not due back until March at the earliest?

You don't need to punt the season away but I'm giving you the spoiler in June 2025.

They ain't getting beyond the second round at best.

I would think KP would be too rich for Lakers in terms of money.
They need D-Wings and i would guess cheap C who can roll to the basket and protect paint. Like someone like Claxton but he could be too expensive too for them

I worked on a KP to GSW trade at one point.

How about something like:

Moody/Hield to Memphis (Hield prob moved on)

Brandon Clarke/pick to Boston

KP to GSW

Couple of roster filler needs to move from MEM and GS.

Resign Kornet and 2 cheap mins and that pretty much does it.

Simons expires as WCJ extension kicks in for 26-27.

Not sure if it works on ATL’s end (or Boston’s downstream either) but the one that popped in my head was Simons to ATL for Terrance Mann.

Saves another $10M plus gets the guy on the longer term contract Brad loves. Idk though Boston might not be able to handle Mann’s longer term money.

Plus seems like getting Simons down to a sub 10M would be ideal but who knows he could go tomorrow or at the deadline tough to say.

Though he could be a version of why I wanted PJ Washington, maybe they can make him look good and up his value for the deadline.

Yeah, ATL is always good for what ails you (cap space). :) I've done many a Mann trade. Even just KP for Mann/Niang and Niang goes to TPE somewhere.

Assuming Simons stays. Players in that Mann to WCJ salary range all work if that's all you take back for KP:

Mann $15.5M
Isaac $15M
Stewart $15M
PJ $14.2M
Toppin $14M
KO $13.4M,
Clarke $12.5M,
Vandy $11.6M,
Max $11M,
WCJ $10.9M
Hauser $10M - take nothing back for KP

Obviously even cheaper guys work. Different costs on all them. But all theoretically possible.
Can resign Luke for min or slightly above and duck the 2nd.

You expect advancements to stay the same as 6 years ago? KD was 30, JT turned 27, 4 months ago, had the surgery 2 months ago so he was practically 26.

I don’t expect anything, I’m just not ready for doom and gloom well before we know anything!

Edit: before the season even starts Tatum will be about 6 months from his surgery BTW.

The Lakers also can't take back more money than they send out in a trade, if I'm remembering correctly. So a KP to Lakers would have to be a 3-teamer, because we also can't take back more money than we send out. Then Luka and Porzingis didn't click as a pick-and-roll tandem in Dallas, but maybe they are both more interested in trying again, who knows.

I don't really want to see KP on the Lakers though, but if we can take LALs 2031 first in exchange, the Lakers will be tapped on picks they can trade...

I like Austin Reaves though.

I think I'm leaning 50.0001% to 49.9999% that Simons stays. With 10% confidence in that number.

It makes zero sense for a dude coming off a major injury to ramp up for the playoffs where he got his injury in the first place.

Tatum will be back by next playoffs I'm sure. He will be coming off the bench and minute restricted.

Why put him and his Achilles under the pressures that you're talking about? For what purpose? They're not a championship roster right now.

I'd think Mann would be off the table or at least until Simons goes. But they need front court and wing help bad.
