It really feels like we’re drafting one of CMB or Essengue, or even Kon if he drops. Raptors are heavy on the analytics of prospects and Kon/CMB in particular, are at the top of those lists.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that he played 6 games this past season, is a senior, and didn't really improve even if we take those 6 games as a representative sample of what he would have done across a whole season. Oh, and he's almost 22, he should look better than players who are 18-20.

I don't see Masai having any interest in Jalen Green...with that contract of his...unless Phoenix is attaching a pick. Suns couldn't possibly want RJ in that scenario.

They definitely are going best player available. It really depends how they feel about Maluach and Queen vs the guys I mentioned

Re: 2025 NBA Draft Discussion Part 9
At 9 we basically need to get someone who is special in at least one area of the sport that matters who might be able to be borderline elite at that in the NBA.
Ideally, you want that high usage offensive weapon. If you can’t get that then targeting the elite defensive stoppers who have some offense makes sense becuse defence is half the game.
Only when both are gone am I looking at more jack of all trades types master of none clear cut role players and at 9 I don’t think we have to.

Ooof! Selecting Josh Minott 2.0 in the lottery in a strong draft sets this team back years.

Well, I think even the 23/24 numbers make him an interesting prospect. Good size and length for a wing along with plus athleticism and elite efficiency numbers. We can question the competition and the age is maybe a downside but he's also a late blooming prospect and his development arc is a bit different probably leaving more untapped potential than the typical prospect at his age.

I'd say its looking like a trade down.
Too many teams want into the top 10. And Brooklyn doesn't want more picks.
Atlanta
Brooklyn
Oklahoma
all three would like to get a top 10 pick according to rumors. All three have assets we like.
Spurs also could be a team looking to move up to get Maluach.
Perfect trade down scenario

Queen and Essengue have been in the lower end of the realistic Raps’s target at 9.
Even if you don’t draft someone solely because he named three Raptors but still , hearing this, well I am warming up !

I think Coward would feel like a Raptors type pick, we have never shied away from taking guys with a history of being overlooked and overaged players that we think have some untapped potential but I'm not sure about at #9. Feels like maybe more of a possibility if we trade back.

But you didn't watch him play right? He's a guy you have to watch. The numbers can't tell his story, all they can do is caution you of his downside.
His elite skill is ballhandling. He might not be an elite vertical athlete, but he has elite speed with the ball.
He's got fine size to be a PG. He didn't shoot well numbers wise, but he believes in his shot and he can create his own. His percentage is lower in large part due to how many came off the bounce and in defenders faces. He can make those shots. He's not some guy who struggles to shoot 30 percent on wide open catch and shoot threes.
He's got that star aura. You have to watch him to see it. Preferably full games. He led a tournament team when he was suppose to still be in high school.
If you want upside, he's got it.
I have seen him play, and I've got serious reservations about the guy's upside. I can't draft a guy in the lottery primarily based on vibes and aura. How many smallish guards who can't shoot and have good but not great athleticism go on to become stars in the NBA? The success rate ain't good.
Then we just disagree. I believe in his shot. I believe in his speed with the ball being an elite athletic trait, lots of guys who are more athletic but can't get to spots because they can't handle it like Fears. I believe in his upside being among the highest in the draft, although I do recognize he has a lower floor compared to some people in his range. For me, he's a guy I absolutely would bet on, especially for an organization that has been looking for a game changing type talent. If he's there at 9, no way I pass him. There are more solid bets out there if all you want is a role player, but if Fears is on the board I would rather have him bust than use 9 on a solid 7th man type.

I have been saying Kon or Noa for a very longtime. Let's see what Masai does, I still got trust in him to deliver on lottery picks. If he thinks CMB is really that guy then I'm all for it as well.

Or you could take a look at the tape and stats and decide for yourself. Masai has a good eye but is not infallible and often falls in love with projects.
