Ok...we were discussing Jase

No... you weren't.

LOL

Ryan is another just 6’ guard.

LOL I know...

His wingspan is 2" beyond Bane's ...he's among the most efficient finishers at the rim in NCAA - that means he knows how to use every inch of it. He's also 19yo...imagine drafting him at #25 and he grows 2" :D
He's not going to get bigger.

Dating back to 02-03 which is as far back as the Basketball Reference Database goes on this stat, Jase Richardson had the 15th best freshman season according to BPM and the 3rd best freshman among guards in the entire database (minimum 20 games played).

1. Zion Williamson 20.1 - 1st overall pick in 2019
2. Anthony Davis 17.2 - 1st overall pick in 2012
3. Cooper Flagg 16.3 - 1st overall pick in 2025
4. Chet Holmgren 15.0 - 2nd overall pick in 2022
5. Karl-Anthony Towns 14.3 - 1st overall pick in 2015
6. Evan Mobley 13.7 - 3rd overall pick in 2021
7. Nerlens Noel 12.1 - 6th overall pick in 2013 (likely would have gone first had he not torn his ACL)
8. Brandon Miller 12.0 - 2nd overall pick in 2023
9. Lonzo Ball 12.0 - 2nd overall pick in 2017
10. Joel Embiid 11.9 - 3rd overall pick in 2014
11. D'Angelo Russell 11.9 - 2nd overall pick in 2015
12. Cody Zeller 11.7 - didn't declare, 4th overall pick in 2013 after sophomore year
13. Jaren Jackson Jr. 11.7 - 4th overall pick in 2018
14. Onyeka Okongwu 11.6 - 6th overall pick in 2020
15. Jase Richardson 11.6 - TBD

Getting a guy with that statistical profile at 25 feels like it would be a bit unprecedented.

There's something about Jase's low volume relative to the other guards on that list that makes me wonder if his number might be skewed as a result. I just quickly threw his numbers into excel to see splits and differences between the games he started and the first 21 games he was coming off the bench.

BENCH (first 21 games of season)
21mpg
9.28ppg
0.8/2.1 from 3 (39%)
2.3/4 from 2 (58%)
2/2.4 from FT (89%)
2apg
0.9tov

STARTER (last 9 games of regular season)
30mpg
16.8ppg
1.6/4.4 from 3 (34%)
4.1/6.6 from 2 (60%)
3.6/4.3 from FT (82%)
1.8apg
0.7tov

TOURNY (5 games)
30mpg
15ppg
2.3/4.8 from 3 (44%)
1.8/6 from 2 (37%)
4.3/5.5 from FT (82%)
1.7apg
0.8tov

Small sample sizes, generally pretty consistent. Didn't shoot the 3 ball well when he was first moved into the SL, but got real hot in the tourney play. At the same time, his 2pt scoring was stronger when he first started, but during the tourney his efficiency dropped considerably from 2 - however his FTr increased. I dunno, he seems more Malik Beasley than he does D'Lo - which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

YESSS I see a Malik Beasley in his game for sure, love that comp. I think in our forward centric offense you could do a lot worse at 25 than a guy whose consistently been a solid shooter and can also get to the basket/high FTR.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

I'm pointing out that players rarely change size after they are drafted. It's just like everyone saying Chet would gain 40 lbs after he was drafted. My concern about Jase is that he's light, too. He's 1 inch smaller and 9 lbs lighter than Cole.

ehh, ive seen plenty of players gain an inch or 2 when drafted after their freshman year. and 10+ pounds.

Also who gives AF? If he can hoop then he will. An inch? Really? There’s an unhealthy obsession over slight differences in height and weight in here.

Ok.. just throwing this out there...

Appearantly Weltgawd had a 2 hr interview with Hansen Yang after his workout. Is it due to the language barrier or are we really interested?

If we do plan him to be a 2nd rounder... that must mean we take Jase at 25?

Wait this is WeltPark... who knows what they would do.

I was 5'4 coming out of high school...just normalizing. Had an assigned roommate wrestler dragging me to the gym and shoving protein powder down my throat...Perfect storm of genetics and exposure to a psycho at the right time.
