This is a salary dump to get under the 2nd apron, don’t read into the demise of Boston or anything as they’re the first victim of this but many others will follow.

He's missing all of next season, that's what this signals.

So? He’s back in 2 years. With the assets they got, how exactly are Boston putting a team that can contend out there?

Tatum, Brown and White alone is a title contending trio. Do you really think that the rest of the roster will be trash?

To save 180 million in penalties, he would have no choice. The team was just sold and Tatum is out for the year.

It seems they know next year is a down year, and gave taken the position that its a time to get their books in order.

Niang is underrated. Simons is a good player, though might be very expensive in his next year.

No it isn’t. They legit lost 2 guys who are fringe all star caliber guys.

What can they realistically do to improve now? They don’t have salaries to match trades. They don’t have any intriguing prospects. Their 2028 pick is owned by SA. 2029 by I don’t know who.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Good trade for ATL. Hopefully Porzingis has a healthy 2025-2026.

June 23, 2023: As part of a 3-team trade, traded by the Washington Wizards to the Boston Celtics; the Boston Celtics traded Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies; the Boston Celtics traded Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala and Julian Phillips to the Washington Wizards; the Memphis Grizzlies traded Marcus Sasser and a 2024 1st round draft pick (Bub Carrington was later selected) to the Boston Celtics; and the Memphis Grizzlies traded Tyus Jones to the Washington Wizards. 2023 top-4 protected pick is GSW own

Brad Stevens doing his best Danny Ainge impression right now. Competition for the worst record in the league is going to be fierce next season!

Porzingis could be a good pickup, but he's so injury prone. He better be coming off the bench in Atlanta.

Pritchard is under contract until 2028.

Brown is under contract until 2029 and will have a Bionic meniscus.

White is under contact until 2028 + a player option.

Tatum is under contract until 2029 + a player option and will have a Bionic Achilles.

Pick #28 will be under contract until 2027 with 2 option years and then a RFA.

As long as the Celtics have both Js, they will be competitive in 2026-27, don't you worry.

It also forces teams not to sign ok+ players to 35mill contracts and very good players to max contracts. We will see the teams giving out smaller contracts in the future because of this.

So 4 players, a maybe #28 pick who could be out of the league, and that’s about it.

The Celtics have been so good due to their depth and the fact they had 6 or so legit starting pieces. Jrue/White/Tatum/Brown/Horford/Porzingis. A team where the stars are not true superstars (sorry brown and Tatum), and the overall overwhelming number of good/great pieces makes them great.

Now they have Tatum, Brown, 32 year old White (when he’s back), and career bench guy Pritchard.

Celtics are gonna very disappointed when Tatum/Brown don’t have 2/3 all stars around them to make them look better than they are.
