Boston wouldn't be unloading players like this if Tatum hadn't gotten injured.
They're avoiding paying severe tax penalties because they know they don't have a chance to compete for the title without Tatum next year.

Well sure, but those two things are intrinsically linked.
If the Celtics had a realistic chance to win the title this upcoming season, the new owners would have given it one more shot before they made sweeping changes.

There’s a plausible path: minutes open up for Jett, TDS, and Houstan, AB steps into a 6th man role, and there’s enough depth to support Moritz through rehab. Even the incoming rookies would have a realistic shot at carving out a future role.
