Yeah when you don't realize that you clicked on the wrong trade . I kinda get it from Washington on that they have at least cap space and no baggage next season. I guess NO just thought, well f*** it, let's try something else and hope for the best.

I think NO plans to feature Murphy a lot in the the offense and wanted CJ out so he has more room for growth...but acquiring Poole kind of offsets that

I think people should withhold judgment on all of these trades until they see what happens with the draft. It really looks awful for the Pelicans but if they needed that pick and salary to make a massive move up in the draft or for another trade it might make sense. Collecting draft picks in a weaker draft class is certainly not ideal so there better be something in the works or this is just more proof that certain franchises exist to serve as farm systems or facilitators for other franchises.

Some flak for both franchises in the posts I read on the first two pages. But I actually like what the Wizards are doing under this new front office.

This trade: They get two players on expiring contracts who also happen to be good vets. They can either trade them to a contender for a little something or have them play with their young core (Sarr, Coulibaly,...). That's a lot of of good veteran presence around your team. Wizards won this trade in my opinion.

They also got rid of Beal's untradeable contract while not only not attaching draft equity to offload that contract, but even getting draft assets.

To be fair, I don't think stars will line up to sign with Washington in the summer of 2026 when all that money comes off the books. But I like what the current front office is doing since they took over. It was a franchise in eternal purgatory a few years ago. Now they have some solid young prospects, solid vets on short contracts and tons of flexibility in the future. Who did see that coming in 2023, before the Beal trade?

Well with the Wizards, this is a great deal. Bey should be a good piece in NO if he bounces back as he's on a reasonable salary while Poole is just a stopgap as Murray won't be back for a while. I'm not huge about it for NO, but oh well.

Checked the cap sheet for Washington and they'll have nearly $99M coming off the books after 25-26 with the vets expiring. If Holmes deal is exercised, that's an extra 13M coming off as well. After years of rock bottom mediocrity, really love the direction the Wizards are going in. Future is bright in DC.

I can see why the Pels would do this. With everyone healthy, Herb Jones would be starting at the 2. Not sure how CJ would take a sixth man role at this point in his career. Poole on the other hand excelled in that role in Golden State. A very expensive sixth man yes but I can see the fit.

Pretty funny how many people don't understand it from the Pels perspective.

They are not a team that can let someone expire because it does them zero good, so they have to move the contract down the road.

They flip McCollum (who is washed) and Olynyk for two younger players that are talented but distressed. So you try and rehabilitate them to see if you can flip in the future. You kick the salary can down the road and can trade them next year if necessary as salary.

Poole as much as people hate them quietly had a good year in Wash last year.

It gives you about 7 million dollars more room from the Tax Line, and waiving Elf Payton gives you about 10 total, giving you much more flexibility.

Next, you move Bey into a trade exception, which creates one for Olynyk. Now you have two, the BI and KO ones, and the full MLE at your disposal.


Its actually an incredibly smart move which is shocking for the Pels.
