No there is not, other than that he might be able to knock down an open jump shot here and there, but that's it.

He has the body of a lot of NBA fans, so they have someone to relate to?

They’ll probably execute the two deals together so instead of those two separate TPEs they can just acquire one Jrue sized TPE. Will hard cap them at the 2nd apron, but can’t imagine they have any intention of going back over it anyway.

Porzingis trade return looks like they took the first offer they got. Really you couldn't do better then Niang?
It’s a salary dump. Niang makes $8MM next year. The Celtics weren’t looking for a player to help them compete in their gap year.

Re: Shams: 3 team deal, Porzingis to Atlanta w/ Brooklyn
You do these deals, Tatum injury or not.
These kinds of moves were always going to happen, Tatum injury or not. They were going to dip below the 2nd apron regardless. The big 5 were done after this season, title or not. You would be naive to believe otherwise (if you have a decent understanding of the CBA). The two most disposable are gone and it was cleaner than a lot of people thought it would be. Tatum, Brown, and White are the core and are still in Boston. They picked up Simons a and some spare change with the 3 2nd round picks.
Getting off Jrue now had to be done. I don't want those last 3 years and i don't think you can count on him being the same player by the time Tatum is back. Maybe Simons is part of the future. If not, I think he probably still has some value to somebody in the league. They only shaved 5 million off this year so I think the Celtics do this deal even without all the apron constraints. You also don't want another pick frozen, so you move on to Porzingis. Staying above the 2nd apron would be maleficence. Getting off Porzingis without having to pay for it is a pretty easy decision. You have to get off that money and the 25-26 season is a tough market to get that done.

Re: Shams: 3 team deal, Porzingis to Atlanta w/ Brooklyn
Tatum's injury changed the calculus. Why this matters though is the Celtics reset all of the apron stuff. If he Jayson doesn't get hurt, I'm pretty sure Jrue would still be on the roster and they would be trying to get back to the Finals. I am pretty sure KP would still be on the outs. Not sure what the Nets are trying to do with five first rounders. We'll see how many draft and stash guys they draft. They have to give Fernandez nothing to work with because he's going to try and win every game he can.

Again I’d be shocked if any elite player wins 3 rings without switching teams in this modern NBA. Their #2 has to also be damn near elite and durable as well. And even if they want to switch teams the amount of some of these contracts and extensions is just too much money to pass up even if they want to win. Not every player will operate like LeBron who to my knowledge has never been eligible for a Supermax contract

Celtics have good management. Should be able to land a top 3-4 pick in 2026. Takes Tatum 24 months to fully recover. Brown will coast next season. Take 30 games off as well.
I'd be surprised if they tanked because they still have good players on the roster, but a top 2026 pick would be great to add to their team.

Disappointed to let KP go and at a seemingly paltry return but he was making too much money for someone who is only capable of playing 60 percent (max) of games including playoff with how injury vulnerable his body is
Getting under the luxury tax apron during a gap year for the Celtics with Tatum's injury is a very smart move.
Jaylen Brown and Derrick White definitely won't be traded. Still got a team capable of pinching a 6-8 seed next season

Hawks are giving up a late 1st while getting rid of Mann's crappy contract for Porzingis in a contract year. If theres 1 season you want of a player, its usually their contract year. Human nature is funny when there's tons of money on the line...

KP is more integral to the Celtics system than Jrue is. The entire thing revolves around having a spacing C on the floor for 48 minutes. It’s no coincidence they slipped this year with KP and Horford having down years (or in Horford’s case aging).

Problem is, the guy rarely plays. He's missing half a season every year.

The Celtics aren't 'tanking' they're shedding $180m of salary/taxes with these moves.
They also get Simons to experiment with and try and make him a Derrick White steal kinda move.

One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

I posted months ago that amongst all of the bad things of this CBA, the worst is the affect of injury. I said, God forbid Shai or some superstar gets injured ot changes everything. The KP illness and subsequent Tatum injury were devastating but mean nothing to slowing down this relentless CBA. The injuries to Irving, Haliburton and Lillard can happen to anybody. Just the worst thing of many.
There’s problems with the new CBA, but it’s not that teams aren’t allowed to stockpile so much talent that they can lose multiple top guys and not be affected. That’s a good thing! Why should the Celtics have 9 guys that would start for Denver just so they don’t miss a beat if some of their guys get hurt? Spread the talent around a little.
The real problem is that the actual cap is so low relative to what the top teams are paying to compete that it makes player movement almost impossible during the season. Leave the aprons, the tax, and the floor in place where are now, and just add 5-10% to the cap number each year so that you’re not required to spend 90% of the cap by the start of preseason and teams are allowed to retain some space to make moves over the course of the season.
Because the celts did a good job in scouting , drafting , developing , etc. why does Bos get penalized for other teams failings?

I think they still would have gotten under the 2nd apron, probably with Jrue/Porzingis still gong out. But the expiring salary they got back in Simons/Niang... instead of taking them and the 3 2nds they got they'd be flipping those 2nds and possibly their own draft capital to turn them into better fitting long term pieces. I think ducking the 2nd apron was inevitable, but the Tatum injury changed the calculous in the sense that now they're happy to keep kind of crap player like Simons and total crap like Niang and pocket those 2nds instead of move them. Or if they do move them, it will be to dump Niang and shed $10-12M off Simons' deal so they can duck the tax altogether and reset repeater rates.

Tatum injury or not, Cs were going to clean up the books. Even if a franchise has a winner, we know billionaires don’t just spend money without a likely return. As much as many of us appreciated it, throw out Lacob spending into the stratosphere. I’d bet at least 25 of his peers are still giving him side eye for future labor negotiating reasons.
