I expect them to combine the Jrue to POR deal with the BRK/ATL 3-way. The trade mechanics of that will mean that both Simons and Niang are acquired via salary matching with Porzingis ($30.7M outgoing enables them to take back both of those guys). That means they'll generate a $32.4M TPE for Jrue.

They'll turn the $35.9M of expiring salary for Simons/Niang into abut $19M of expiring salary to duck the tax. I imagine that takes all their 2nd rounders to do. They'll go into next offseason with a $32.4M TPE and about $30M below the tax line. They'll use their 2026 1st rounder since it probably ends up decently high. They'll have hung on to Tatum/Brown/White/Hauser/Pritchard and hope for good development out of their picks this year and Scheierman to go with the 2026 1st. And they'll have that $32.4M TPE to use in a deal that sends out FUTURE 1sts for a player hopefully to slot in behind Tatum/brown/White as the 4th guy. All while still ducking the tax again in 26-27 that way they can go back to league high payroll levels again after that.

That's the path back to competing, IMO.

If Celts are concerned about JBs knee and Rockets want him.

Leaves us about 8 million under second apron to sign Al and Kornet without dumping Hauser.

PP / Simons / JD
White / Scheierman / Peterson
Tatum / Hauser / Niang / Walsh
Markkanen / Horford / Tillman / Norris
Kessler / Kornet / Queta

And a 5-man that can defend in space, protect the rim and pull down 10 boards a game.

I think 9 boards would be fine.

Jayson Tatum $54,126,450
Jaylen Brown $53,142,264
Derrick White $28,100,000
Anfernee Simons $27,678,571
Sam Hauser $10,044,643
Georges Niang $8,200,000
Payton Pritchard $7,232,143
#28 pick $2,783,880
Baylor Scheierman $2,619,000
Xavier Tillman $2,546,675
Neemias Queta $2,349,678
J.D. Davison $2,270,735
Jordan Walsh $2,221,677
#32 pick $1,272,869

Total $204,588,585

Salary Cap $154,647,000
Luxury Tax Line $187,897,000
1st Tax Apron $195,946,000
Super Tax Apron $207,825,000

Cap Room $(49,941,585)
Luxury Tax Room $(16,691,585)
1st Apron Room $(8,642,585)
2nd Apron Room $3,236,415

At this point, I feel like they're too close to ducking the tax altogether not to just bite the bullet and do it. Pay a 2nd or two and dump Niang. That's the obvious move. After that you have two options:

1) dump Hauser into a TPE somewhere Technically when you account for the roster spots to backfill of Niang/Hauser it leaves you a bit short but they can make that work with back fo the roster maneuvering like trading #28 for an early 2nd, signing Peterson for a bit less than Davison's non guaranteed minimum deal with an extra year of experience, and/or dumping Tillman midyear and backfilling with a pro rated vet min.

2) Make a move or a series of moves with Simons that sheds $10-12M off his salary so you can keep Hauser on his good value multi year deal instead.

With the work you did putting this together, you missed something. If you trade Hauser or Simons you need money to address their big men.

All you posters rubbing hausers balls is laughable!
Player minus a 3 point shot (when it might go in) is useless, plays stiff and slow on D
Bye bye!

Brown can go as well, had his chance to take over the Knicks series but didn’t, overpaid and arguably he is not a top 24 player in this League
picks picks picks and more picks
Build around Tatum White and draft better than the stiff Walsh…

I missed the memo that the season starts tomorrow morning. Let’s go get a game thread going with the new starting lineup!

Finals ended like 3 days ago, the draft hasn’t happened, and folks are declaring our record and starters already….

Why? And here I thought I was on a forum to discuss a basketball team.

Lame take -25

Problem is it has been discussed for the nth time and Brad already gave us the answer.

So what's to discuss when Brad already said no to trading JB.

I don’t remember him saying that. I’m not sure JB is going to be here by tomorrow. I don’t know what Brad is going to do. We know who he’ll pick given the opportunity on draft night, for some reason, but we rarely know with who the other teams he’s trading with.

Sure, it was pretty easy to know we were getting off of Jrue and Porzi, because that was basically forced hand. People didn’t know the team, unless you count the tweets that named 50-11 teams, but they didn’t know what was coming back.

How they can’t keep our draft picks quiet but can keep trades in the hush until they are done, I don’t know. I wonder if it’s intentional. Like are they trying to get a team to take the guy we’ll settle for so they’ll leave a guy we want as our primary target and it hasn’t worked? I dunno, but scouts may be loose lipped.

They needed a bunch of assistance to win one chip and fumble HC every other year. We’re ****ed

We have a million 2nd rounders. Maybe the next Joker is out there.

What teams have a superior core than Tatum/Brown and White?

Tatum a top 5 player and Brown a top 20. White top 30. L

Cap also goes up every year. lol.

luxury tax is $178m and the second apron is $188M for 2024-25.

That goes up every year based on a formula.

They need to shed salary another $10M or so. But they are gonna be fine.

Spurs
If healthy, philly
Arguable lakers
Arguable houston
Mavericks
OKC
Orlando is looking really good
Indiana is great when healthy
Gsw is close
Any team with Jokic

Larry,

OKC is the only team with a core superior 1-3 current AND long term. Tatum/Briwn/white a title contender now through prime.

Evaluate title prospects if teams in the short and long term.

Dallas: window is short. Davis, Kyrie, Klay north of 30.
Spurs window hasn’t even opened yet
Philly? Really.
Orlando? Good core. But Tatum > Banchero and Brown > Franz and Whjte > Bane.Orlando doesn’t have enough.
Indiana: what Core? Halliburton and Siakim? They will never get back to finals.
GSW: Old. Over the hill.
Denver? Jokic and no help. Give me a break.
Milwaukee: Giannis and no help and he is 30.

Outside of OKC, Celtics have a better core than anyone else in the league. I like SGA/Williams/Chet better. That’s it .

In this new world, where 6th St Partners is going to have say-so on our tax bill, I'm starting to think talent on rookie deals (like OKC has w/ J-Dub and Cason right now) is going to be more important than under Wyc/Irv when our owners were sitting on a multibillion capital gain and willing to go all in to raise a banner.

I think this means we have to look more seriously at trading Derrick or Jaylen now to get more draft assets. I didn't realize until today, business conditions might change more than I realized now that the institutional investors are holding a stake.

I'm fine with trading or keeping JB.

So far the reports have been accurate.

They said Jrue and KP were the ones moving and not JB and White.

I believe those reports.

So I will be surprised if Brad ends up trading JB.

It's embarrassing that people that spend this much time on the board still flip out like clockwork when they should 100% know better.
