Re: 2025 Draft prospects - thread 3
There is no scenario in which I do not take KJ if he is there. But I just don't see him going past Portland and could see him going as early as 8. He's still my clear absolute #1. If the Bulls could land him, it would completely change my view of what path this team is on.
Assuming he's gone, as we are about 21 hours away from the pick, I find myself zeroing in on the bigs. I still love CMB and like Demin, but I'm really hoping Essengue will be there and if not, Beringer, and if not, Sorber. I'm wanting to go with one of the perfect-with-Giddey-and-Matas developmental bigs, or the high floor multi-purpose big in Sorber who is no freak but is athletic enough to keep up.
And I still really, really want to pick up a second first rounder. Now is the time to get a little extra draft juice at a lower cost. We're not going to be picking in the top 6 anytime soon, so this is a perfect draft to get an extra swing with so many unique prospects. Unfortunately, one of the most damning things you can say about AK is he never seems to recognize the importance and timing of opportunities when they arise. That and impatience are his two most glaring flaws.

FWIW, Yahoo has us taking Queen, with Newell going 9, Bryant 10, and CMB 11.
I hope they take a big- we badly need one and there are 3-4 to pick from. I really do like Newell, and Sorber also seems like a plus defender with some offensive upside. I don't know much about Beringer. Queen reminds me too much of Eddy Curry.

At this point, I've talked myself into being okay with KJ. We have to move Coby and/or Lonzo this summer though. I don't want a Reed Shephard situation where we bury him on the bench all year. He's still top 5 talent, but he needs to room to develop.

If we use our precious lottery pick on another slow, half court center who can't defend, after years of Vuc, I might have to say something unkind about AK.
The thing with incompetent GMs is there's always a limit in your mind as to how bad they can actually be, right? Like you can imagine something being so obviously stupid that even a GM you don't like wouldn't do it. You trust that even though he sucks, he can't possibly such THAT bad. That is Queen for me. I don't really worry about us drafting Queen because its completely unthinkable that AK, boob that he is, doesn't realize that you can't build a playing style around Giddey with a 5 like Queen. In order to run we have to be able to defend. In order to run we have to be able to have guys who can consistently run without getting gassed. Queen is a tantalizing talent and I think he's going to do some good things, but he's just such an awful fit for us its hard to imagine AK not seeing that.

Honestly, this is the first post where you spelled Essengue's name correctly. I think it might be a sign. Essengue to the Bulls at 12.

KJ is the one who I have predicted and now that the Suns are drafting at 10 and wanting a big man instead of a guard it’s definitely possible he ll be available at 12. We’ll see.
I don’t really care who they draft tomorrow night just hope it ends up being the right choice regardless of who it is.

I'd trade 12 plus the Portland pick if it meant getting KJ, but I don't see that happening.
As for the second round AK has traded to get into it in the past (Julian Philips), but I don't trust that he'll make the right move (Philips has been...meh IMO).

Noa would definitely be a Raptor type of pick. I'd be surprised of Trey fell to 8.
I'm also surprised that Carter Bryant is likely to get picked as high as it looks like he will. Not to say I don't see the talent there, but I think he is going to be one of those wild swing players, that drops a better player later in the draft, and he just ends up being a defensive specialist type of player. It happens every year, teams take a swing on the physical attributes more so than skill, and just become enamored by their potential and many times it doesn't work out, but when it does, obviously it's a huge win.
If we can draft CMB, and then draft another wing later in the draft like Powell, I'd be very happy. I'd definitely be calling the Nets to see what it would take to get one of their many picks. I'd even trade our number 12, if we could get the Nets 19 and 26 - I think this draft is that deep. In that scenario, nab Sorber and Powell and call it a day by adding a young centre, and a versatile athletic wing, who could grow into a 3D player.
Why so serious?

I’ve been saying the same. So many here hate the fact that Vuc can’t defend despite being very good on offense but then at the same time turn around and want to draft someone like Queen who has similar strengths/weaknesses as Vuc.

He is one of the players I wouldn't want the Bulls to draft, but if he were, the optimism would be that he is young, skilled and has room to grow, whereas Vuc is who he is at this stage in his career, and there is no hope of him improving.

I think Queen is a unique talent. A special offensive player. But you have to commit to playing a certain way and populate your roster accordingly to make it work. We can't do that. We've already committed to a Giddey-centric open court, full court, playing style with him being (for now) flanked by runners like Coby, Ayo, Matas and Ball. We need mobile and athletic defenders behind Giddey who can immediately turn around and run with him on offense. That is the opposite of the right use of Queen whether he's "BPA" or not.

I don't know how the CBA works with picks for players anymore, so I'm not sure how possible it is. But if we go guard/wing at 12, I'd be willing to trade Ayo for a second first rounder to get a big. And I'm a big fan and believer of Ayo, and think when he returns from injury (if not traded) he's going to fit perfectly with our new style.

Noa does seem like a Raptors pick, but isn't he just adding more of the same to the team (so to speak)? Barnes, Boucher, Ingram and Barrett...I guess if they think he's the BPA then they should just take him and figure it out later.
I'm also not saying he's exactly like those players, but most of them have similar physiques.
