Athletically he should be able to attack and get to the rim but of note is his FTr.

His career FTr is .173 and he posted .174 last season.

Holiday posted a FTr of .143 last season. Simons of players that posted over 800 minutes on BOS last season would rank below Zinger, Kornet, Queta, Tatum, Brown and White in FTr.

Simons is a shooter. I think playing off ball and getting more open 3's should improve his 3PT% and his release is lightning quick.

But Simons just isnt good at attacking. He is pushed around easily and just isnt a natural downhill player.

That's fine Boston relies on Brown (and Tatum) to be their downhill players.

Funny thing is I've prob got 20 posts from years back about not acquiring this guy. But I'm oddly bullish on him if he plays, like 23/3/4 on career best efficiency.

Reasons being he'll finely have a functioning PG again (his best seasons were aged 22 and 23 when he played w/ Lillard and/or McCollum), he's prime aged, and it's a contract year. A little jilted from getting dumped with picks for an old guy, he has "let him break out" vibes all over him.

I mean, I don't want him to be anything near a title contender season (or at least 7th man at best) but have to call a spade a spade here this guy has a player of the week/month of November written all over him, JCraw on steroids.

All those guards got turned around and out of here fairly quickly.

But I give Simons less than 48 hours. The potential salary savings outweigh his fit with the team.

One, I'm in agreement with ATR, I'm bullish in the short term.

2.) It's an interesting question - KP sounds destined to be traded but in a vacuum if they could just vanish one guy, would it be Simons or Porzingis? Idk the answer to that. Though Simons doesn't seem that durable himself.

I kind of feel bad for Pritchard. He was likely headed towards a starting job and setting himself up to get paid in the future and now he's once again blocked and relegated to a backup role. Please trade him to us. He deserves to start and we need a PG. Simons is going to be so good with you that it wouldn't shock me that he gets signed long-term and becomes part of your core going forward.

Kinda psyched about him.
Put on a few pounds, commit to playing defense, and stay awhile, young fella!

If he plays well in this one year rent, he'll want at least $30 mil a season. He doesn't worth it for us
This is a short time rent at best

I kinda agree with the main point - if he even plays a minute for us. But, I also feel like $20M is the new $30M with the CBA. It's above MLE so other teams can't get there via space only (for the most part), but the days of paying 4-5 starters $30M are gone.

Will he sign for $20 mil assuming he get $27 mil right now?
Will he be worth it for us?

Time will tell

Double benefit of cutting salary and having a guy who can help with ticket / jersey sales.

Read on Twitter

Simons just blowing by D-white and Al, both former all-defensive team guys and making it look easy. Brad said, "yeah, gimme"

Others who had a big game vs Boston and then Brad goes and gets them: Springer, Brissett, Jrue, Banton..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I would've never known that he won a Slam Dunk contest if he wasn't traded to Celtics and I had to look him up lol

The financial benefits of ducking the tax altogether are just too big for me to think they won't do it. They've come too far to not go all the way, IMO. They don't HAVE to move Simons to do that though. If they PAY a 2nd or 2 dump Niang and then probably GET a 2nd or 2 to dump Hauser, then they can duck the tax by doing some back of the roster tinkering.

My guess right now is that unless something worth doing come available now, they go into the season mostly as-is with Simons/Niang/Hauser. In particular, they'll assess whether they'd rather keep Hauser long term on his deal or if Simone is someone they want to keep long term instead. From there they'll decide what the best course of action is to duck the tax... dumping Niang and Hauser at the deadline or keeping Hauser and getting the savings from dealing Simons into smaller salaries (also possibly dumping Niang still).

Pritchard is not a starter. We’ll probably try it though.

One of my fears with "showing him off" is that for as much as people concern themselves that we'll chase Tatum away or piss him off by trading guys while he's out, I actually worry about it a lot with Brown. Put yourself in his shoes... you finally get the chance to "prove" yourself as a #1. You lead BOS to decent playoff positioning. And then mid year Stevens ships out Simons if he's playing really well for picks and tax savings. It's kind of a slap in the face to him and the efforts he would have put in for this scenario.

It feels inevitable to me that they'll duck the tax so I hope they just get it over with now.

In the 2nd apron world, Simons is probably a 3/$55 or 4/$70 type of player. There is no consideration that he will get an extension at $30 million/yr ... Certainly we won't give him that

It does seem unlikely that Simons is on the team on opening night ... If we get a big deal today though (White or Brown trade) then maybe that changes and Simons stays... but probably Simons is the one going out
