[Siegel] The Utah Jazz, who are spearheaded by former Celtics executives Danny Ainge and his son, Austin Ainge, made an aggressive push in the last couple of days for Jaylen Brown, multiple league source say. Deal centered around the #5 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

PP is not explosive and not really a finisher on fast breaks.
It will be a 3-guard rotation, White, Simons, and PP.
Not redundant at all.
Simons is basically unguardable 1 on 1.
Yes Simons is a superior offensive player. That's why I think he could theoritically bring us a quality big.
Also, how would a PP and Simons backcourt combination look defensively?
I'd rather keep Simons, but Brad must draft a good big tonight (and there are a few options in our range), or trade for one. I'd be pissed if we go into next year with Kornet/Al/Queta at the 5.
And this is the heart of trading KP. What made it essential to trade right now? It's awesome that Bill Chisholm is hard capped. His accountants are thrilled! I'm very happy for him. As fans we are counting on the process to include getting much better at PF and C. Today we are worse.. There is certainly a grace period to get better, championship ready bigs. Is by the trade deadline fair? I distinctly remember Chisholm saying his plan was to keep winning championships. I don't need to see it today. But I will need to see it
You'll see it 15-16 years from now.

I'm not built for this stuff you guys. Not mad or overly surprised at our moves yesterday. But I'm a fan, not a GM, and I lost 2 of my favorite players yesterday and my team is less talented now. I get it and I trust Brad but it's a bummer for me.

The evolution of the NBA.
If this CBA existed in the 80s, no way Cs would be able to keep Bird, McHale, Parish, DJ, and Ainge for more than 3 seasons.

The only deal that should demand Brad's attention would be if SAS called. That's about it. I think it makes too much sense for both teams for it to happen.
Good assessment:
PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

Would Dallas take JB and White for Flagg?
Just checked the Mavs cap situation.
To be confirmed, but I think the Mavs have enough contracts to trade, without including Kyrie and AD, for White and JB.

Guess it's not a good idea to have a White-Flagg duo.

flintsky21 wrote:While KP and Holiday did get us through the hump, we were contenders before they arrived, and it's largely because of the Jays. I don't think we'd be breaking up the Jays without giving them at least one more chance to compete together. White is still one of the best 3rd-piece in the league. I think it's a disservice to break them up without even finding out if they're no longer good enough to make the Celtics a contender.
But can we build around 2 supermax contracts and DWhite?
We pretty much had 2-3 year window before supermax contracts kick in or they are signed. Similar to GSW where they got lucky 2 times with big cap space spike where they could resing/sign whatever they want.
These contracts are growing faster then cap space. We just lost 60+ mil cap space because both supermax contracts will be active.
We need to strike gold in draft TODAY
JB trade could land you 1-2 starting 5 level players and picks.
None wants to trade JB just for trading JB but moving forward it will be hell building out team with 2 supermax contracts

I don't think this team's going to be very good. Between 38 and 44 wins tops.
44 wins could be right. The thing is it probably gets you in consideration for 4-6 seed because the East is beat up with injuries. If Tatum does come back then this roster has a shot. Again it all depends on him and you could have a situation where Brown takes that next step and becomes the 1 option. It’s all logical and possible. However if you’re going to tear it down it’s not logical to do it now. Wait until Tatum is healthy and assess from there. Otherwise you’re going to be trading someone who is pissed off about being in a rebuild and rushing back from his injury, thus diminishing returns.

Re: 2025 Offseason Trade and Free Agency Thread (The Fun Never Stops Edition)
#5 and what else from Utah? I assume John Collins and Sexton are the matching salary.
They have a ton of picks, the best of which is the 2031 PHX unprotected (plus their own picks although they'd be better after adding Jaylen). I'd be wanting that PHX pick plus several more if the key piece we're getting in this draft is only #5.
#5 and Lauri would be the kind of deal I'd be interested but assume nothing like that is on the table from their side.

This team is WORSE next year, even if Tatum comes back healthy and ready for a deep playoff run.
They struggled against the Magic and lost to the Knicks.
Sorry I'm not all that hyped about being one of the dudes with the lottery ticket and maybe just maybe the numbers come out our way and we make it to the finals and get mopped by the thunder.
Lets focus on the reality. The Celtics with the Jays have historically underperformed, outside of one year. That is going to continue now that they lost all their depth.

You gotta make it sexy! Hips and nips, otherwise I'm not eating.

If Brad could fleece the Jazz, I'd absolutely entertain trading JB to Utah. Their roster isn't great — even with Markkanen and Brown, I'm not sure they make the playoffs out West.
I'm talking about the 5th pick, the 21st pick, a bunch of future first-rounders, and Cody Williams/Salary filler

Worse or more expensive players, really.
Pomp would generate insane interest. Hauser they can get a first rounder or more from a title contender. They gotta add assets and cut salaries with Hauser .
PP? I just think you keep him.

If Dallas and Nico are serious about winning now, the best core-4 would be AD, JB, Kyrie, and White.

That deal is awful and Brad would be asking for #2/#14/Castle and all of the future picks and none of that crap long term salary.
My guess is Spurs really do want to trade the pick because of either fit or talent or both and their problem is the possible available players are either too good they aren't ready yet (Jokic/Giannis) or not that good (Garland/KAT) and a bad fit.
Spurs wish Celtics would solve their guard problem and Brad has said sure give us the key to the house and we will just take whatever we please or get lost.
Spurs need Castle.
I don't believe JB's going to be traded, but if it's to the Spurs, my package would be the most practical.
Vassell and Keldon will ensure we have depth at the wing position.
Getting Castle will cause a log jam at the Guard spot with White, PP, Simons, and Castle.
Castle isn't a log jan. That is Simons on the bench.
