The idea of keeping Jrue makes more sense if another trade is line up, such as acquiring Towns/Zion/Sabonis/Markennen ect...
Holiday/Deni/Camara/Towns/Clingan
Bench
Banton/Sharpe/Grant/Walker/Reath.

I sorta think this is what the attempt to do - grab one of those guys. Not sure it materializes though and really hope we keep the core youth in any deal.
Lauri for Grant + 11 would be fine by me.

Not surprising after being so injured last year. Would be nice if we could get some seconds for him at the trade deadline, but we'll see.

Trading #11 for Markkanen or Sabonis would be stupid, teams are trying to get IN to this draft or trade UP to where POR is and people are advocating for lateral moves?

I'm not concerned for us trading #11 for them. I'm concerned about it being #11 and multiple other picks.Walton1one wrote:Trading #11 for Markkanen or Sabonis would be stupid, teams are trying to get IN to this draft or trade UP to where POR is and people are advocating for lateral moves?

I’m concerned about #11, both this year and next years drafts are supposed to be strong in talent and our idiot GM would be trading out of one and potentially forfeiting the other
Teams with far better front offices are trying to get in\move up, should tell you all you need to know about the strength\talent at the top of this draft
Only hope is most teams in top 10 doubtful to move out

Personally, I think this is Utah's mistake all over again--fooled by "improvement" and trying to get too good too fast and it will set back the franchise for many years.
In this case it's compounded by the fact that this year and especially next could have changed the course of the franchise. Instead they'll get a career backup and another non-all star to add to their long list of non-allstars.

For me it would depend on the salary.
If we used Grant + 11 - then I would be fine.
If we used Ayton then I would want something back due to the salary implications. Maybe something like -
PDX OUT - Ayton, Kris, 11
PDX IN - Lauri, 36, 2 future SRP
UTA OUT - Lauri, 21, 2 future SRP
UTA IN - Ayton, Kris, 11, 27
BRK OUT - 27, 36
BRK IN - 21
Dump Reath for a late SRP - maybe to LAL for 55.
Lauri played nearly 50% of his minutes at C 2 years ago which bodes well for the forward roster crunch. I would give this roster a fighting chance against every team in the West outside OKC -
G - Jrue Holiday / Scoot Henderson / Ben Saraf (36)
G - Toumani Camara / Shadeon Sharpe / Ben Saraf (36)
F - Deni Avdija / Matisse Thybulle / Rayan Rupert
F - Lauri Markkanen / Jerami Grant / Eric Dixon (55)
C - Donovan Clingan / Robert Williams III / Lauri Markkanen

Whatever these idiots do it's gonna suck. I would trust anyone on this board more than I trust this FO.
I expect them to trade the pick and Scoot for Sabonis or something wildly moronic.

Jeebus, trade deadline and draft time, and this place just gets negative as all hell. Some of you need to get outside a little or something. Drink less. Drink more? I dunno. Just step away for a bit maybe

This. A while ago I became resigned to the fact this team wasnt willing to do a tear-down rebuild. Its simply not happening. So mentally I have simply shifted my outlook. We want to be competitive in a way that also develops the youth. Its that simple. Holiday is a fit with both young guards, he has consistently won awards based on character, he plays defense and fits the culture the coaching staff is trying to build.
There was NEVER a chance this team did what most here wanted - a Hinkie type rebuild where the team just bottoms out for half a decade. This is not NBA 2K - there are financial numbers on the line. Tanking and putting a putrid product on the floor for years on end makes even less sense with the flattened lotto odds. We have already picked Top-10 3 years running, given the flattened lotto odds there is zero guarantee another 3, 5, 7 years of tanking brings us a blue chip prospect. Its just the new reality of the NBA. Look at UTA - they have been shafted by these new lotto odds like 3 year running.
Just accept the team wants to make the playoffs. Accept the FO still sees Scoot / Sharpe as foundational pieces. Its simply the reality we are living in. If the team doesnt take the guy you like, ya it sucks, but women, beer and weed still exist. Life is dope as hell. This is all a distraction for the quiet times (IE work lol).

actually, it may be a repeat of a giant Olshey mistake. The 'feel-good' winning streak in the middle of this season may be as big a mis-reading of the situation as the 'feel-good' playoff series win over the Clippers in 2016 when CP3 and Blake Griffin were injured. Olshey used that as the springboard to his 350M spending spree in the summer of 2016; and that locked the Blazers into pretender mediocrity for the next 5 seasons
obviously it's not exactly the same, and the calculation this time may be much better, but some skepticism is warranted

No way I give OKC #11, screw that team, any trade with OKC should extract a heavy toll

Thybulle & RW3 for Barrett?
Grant, Holiday #11 for George & #3?
Just some stuff floating out there, nothing substantial

Re: 2025 Off-Season Strategy - What will Cronin do?
The key would be to ask who they planned to draft there and take them. That would be the best move the Blazers made in a decade, by far. Because they HAVE DONE EVERYTHING RIGHT FOR A DECADE.
I would much rather have whoever OKC picks at 15 and 24 than whoever we pick at 11.
Would they tell us? No, but that would be the best move if possible.

Touch grass. The phrase you're looking for that the kids use is touch grass.
But at least we have moved on from the people are going to get murdered rhetoric of 2023. So small steps?
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
