My dream scenario: with Jrue Holiday pissed being sent to Portland, he works out a buyout and joins Dallas.

CP3 would be my hope but it looks like DLo and Brogdon are their targets in FA now according to Shams.
I will perfer either sign Dlo on TMLE or trade for Sexton.............also if have chance, trade a middle to late first round pick for W.Cayton Jr
Clayton is the guy I want Mavs to get, but we'd probably have to leapfrog the Heat to draft him.
Just don't think DLo solves anything and Sexton will cost more than he is worth.

Lets trade Luka because of... defense? And then bring in a defensive virtuoso and a superb playoff performer DLo to replace him at playmaking position. Brilliant mind Nico, absolutely brilliant.

They did add defense when they traded Luka. That's what AD was for. Whoever they get at guard now is a placeholder until Kyrie gets back. If Kyrie didn't get injured, then there's no need for said placeholder.
They did trade Luka. Mavs Twitter expects 15 Jrue Holidays with various heights and positions. LOL
Luka fans have been pissed since March trying to dissect every move. Maybe I'm just naturally easy going so I could care less. You guys need to let it go. All that anger is cancerous man. And for a sports team? Not worth it.

Mavs is over 1st apron team
Even j.holiday buyout, mavs still cannot sign him
And of course no chance he will butout, he still have 3 years contract

Gotcha.
Wasn't aware of the apron rules.

If sign dlo, he will be just a 5.7M taxpayer MLE guy and not a maximum guy, cannot ask too mush for that money
Also, Dlo is mainly use in season games and only a backup in playoff. Irving will come and takeover the playoff

Dlo role is a short term replacement of irving
And when irving come back, he will takeover it and dlo will be just a backup
Mavs can only spend 5.7M taxpayer, you cannot expect an all-star level one

Nick Angstadt broke it down on Twitter.
The positives for DLo is the cost. You don't need to work out a trade for another first round pick. You don't need to send out another player or two to get another team to actually help you get Clayton. DLo simply comes in and suits up. That's it.
For Clayton or Sexton (who I like a lot) to materialize, you need to send out players and work out trades. A much more complicated route than an outright signing.
So we'll see if they get Clayton after tonight. Another first round pick would be nice if someone's in a buying mood for Hardy or Omax.
I think you can just analyze it simply. Will Dlo be better than Dinwiddie or Exum? Will he be an upgrade over those two? If the answer is yes, then will his 5.7 assist per game help the Mavs in any way. Cost to benefit ratio says yes? He's signing for $5M, not $50M.

If 20M, i will say no to dlo
But if it is just 5.7M TMLE, it is a good deal

Yup. that's what I added. It's $5M not $50M. In which case, yes, it should be acceptable. It's like 1/3 of the MLE. That's like league minimum wage.
Any cheap point guard they get now will just have a backup role once Kyrie comes back. Let's say Kyrie plays 35 mins. This cheap point guard will split the rest of the bench minutes with B-Will.

I would love Simmons if he would simply agree to shoot the ball with no exceptions. I do not think that is going to happen, so no. He would actually make the perfect swift army knife player if he would do that.

I get why Bobby is against DLO. But to break it down against other nice candidates:
DLo - Outright signing, 1 year 5.7M. Can let it him walk after if it doesn't work out.
Coby White - Will likely cost Gaff and picks. You will need to resign him to $30M per or losing Gaff would not be worth it.
Collin Sexton - Will likely cost PJ and picks. You will need to resign him to $30M per or losing PJ would not be worth it.
There are multiple ways to get a guard we all wish for. We just have to be ready to pay the price. You just get off the ladder when the price gets too high IMO.

If they want to compete, they can't build on DLo as their primary PG.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
I wasnt big on DLO but he is a good shooter, has a history with AD, and is a better offensive player than Spencer and Exum when he's focus and playing the right way. I would take him for the right price and he will do an adequate job with Kyrie out with this cast of players. The real issue is are you going to be able to give him quality playing time on this roster when Kyrie comes back? Will there be a enough minutes to go around? Because you probably dont want to play them together too often but DLO can play off-guard and stroke it from the 3.
Note: The one thing I worry about with a guy like DLO is his competitive spirt at times. One thing Indiana and OKC taught me is that you need guys on your roster that love to compete. Watch the film. Give me the guys who are always competing. The dorts, the Curoso's, etc. I want highly competitive guys on this team. These are the type of guys who are going to hold the standard.

Agreed. Like I said, they can climb that ladder if they're not comfortable on the Dlo idea. But since Coby White or Sexton are not outright signings, you have to cough up Gaff or PJ and hope Chicago and Utah agree to help you out. A lot more moving pieces that require people at the table to agree to what you're proposing. But if Chicago or Utah agree to it, then sure I'm on board. I like White or Sexton.

I would much rather give Brandon Williams the minutes we’d give DLO. I don’t even want DLO anywhere near us.
