Not saying there's not a price that they'd HAVE to move them at, but I think by dealing Jrue/Porzingis they kind of tipped their hand on Brown/White. If they seriously expected to trade those guys, I don't see why they would have been in such a rush to deal Jrue/KP. Presumably they'd have gotten financial savings in those deals that might have negated any need to take the big on court losses in those deals. I guess I can see the Jrue trade making sense for the future (and them liking Simons on the court of Brown/White were gone) and the Porzingis did involve a pick tonight that they had to decide on. So maybe there was some urgency even if they do cross the finish line on a Brown/White deal, but feels like they wouldn't have rushed to those deals if they expected Brown/White traded.

Actually it's the opposite. Getting under the 2nd apron frees them up to make a lot of basketball decisions including aggregate salaries. So if they were to trade JB or White, trading Jrue/KP first was the way to go.

I doubt Brad will move either, but now he has the real ability to.

I don't think that particularly matters here. Can't imagine any scenario where they trade Brown/White and take back more salary than they send out nor can I imagine any scenario where they make a trade where those guys aren't the highest priced player in the trade. I don't think they opened up anything functional by ducking the 2nd apron now.

Let's get the focus back to the Celtics, draft night, and what direction this team will be heading. Seems there will still be a bunch of moves needed to be made!

What you meant to say was that before the season started I had them with over 60 wins and winning the finals easily and my Celtics in 5 pick was true in every round minus the one round they overachieved.

Do you guys think all these reports from Shams, Windy, etc. are from us or other teams? You'd think other teams talking to us about JB/DW would want to keep things quiet.

From other teams. Teams try to get in player’s head by trying to make them feel like they’re expendable. Also, teams mentioned know players run a lot these days, they can influence players to say they don’t want to go certain places. If it’s Utah or SA I’m sure JB or White (whoever) don’t want to go to Utah. So the teams put their names out there. May not want to go to Utah, but you’d probably take it over the wiz.

The stuff saying the Celtics would need a crazy haul is probably Celtics trying to lessen the concern tho.

Players have huge egos, it’s hard not to feel like you can do everything a team wants and it still not be enough. Smart was so salty when Brad traded him after he said Brad said he wouldn’t.

I’m really waiting to see if Brad is good or bad at drafting. He hasn’t done it enough to know much yet. It’s too early to tell on Rico. Of course we have to give time to whoever he picks, I hope it’s not long. Tonight may be the start of Drafter Brad. Great at trades, let’s see the greatness in drafting!

Come on Brad, I believe in you! I was upset when Smart was traded, but I believed in you. Nothing you have done has made me waiver, but we eventually need draft picks to hit! Let’s go!!!!

Honestly, at this point, I think I'm pretty happy no matter which way we go. Brad did the heavy lifting, we're under the 2nd apron.

- Simons could turn out to be good if we keep him. Then either resign or flip him.
- We could trade Simons & Niang for a one or 2 better/cheaper players and duck the tax.

Either works. BUT... I think I've come around more on ducking the tax for 25-26. I've made proposals to duck it all along, but I was leaning to just ducking the 2nd apron. When I made the infamous Don't Fear the Repeater (TAX!) thread, it was syaing if we got guys I really liked long term, then paying the extra tax rates wouldn't bug me. Simons is a bucket, but he and Niang aren't necessarily that.

Chatting with hugepatsfan made me realize that if we duck the tax in 25-26, it doesn't mean we're 100% throwing away 26-27 too. It just gives you options. If things are looking great with Tatum and the young guys look better and Brown/Pritchard took steps, etc, and Brad sees a move that makes the team a top contender for 26-27, great. You do it even if it means going over the tax for 26-27 and not resetting the rate. Cuz, titles.

But, if they're not, you can stay under the tax line again and reset things. That opens up even more options going forward 27-28 and on. But, you don't have that option to reset if you don't duck this year. And I don't think Simons/Niang are the guys you say "screw that option" for.

5 is a lot, but I can see their coach being a guy who'd rather develop his own culture rather than take any splashes right now.
