Fred VanVleet, Rockets Agree To Two-Year, $50M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 25, 2025 4:24 pm

Fred VanVleet has agreed to a two-year, $50 million contract with the Houston Rockets. VanVleet will hold a player option for the 2026-27 season.

The Rockets declined their $44.9 million option on VanVleet to make way for their new deal at a significantly lower number. VanVleet, who is represented by Rich Paul, signed a three-year, $130 million contract with the Rockets during the 2023 offseason.

Last season, VanVleet averaged 14.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 60 games with the Rockets.

Wow! That's a huge pay cut! I'm guessing the options were take this deal or we're gonna have to move you. I expect to see more team friendly deals given this new CBA with teams being more judicious about handing out big contracts. I feel like he surely could've gotten more on the open market but opted to stay with a contending team where he knows what his role is.

Good deal for the Rockets but VanVleet is also a small guard now in his early 30's that just shot 37/34/81. It is safe to assume his best days are already behind him.

Expected them to agree on at least, 3 year deal.
Fred is not an A tier pg, but he is good. Good deal for the Rockets.

FVV could've gotten more elsewhere, but he likes the city, the team and their chances now.

FVV could not have gotten more elsewhere. A guy averaging 14ppg is not worth a penny more than $25 million per year. It’s a fair deal for FVV and good deal for Rockets. FVV will pick up that second year option quickly when he sees he’s not worth more than $25 million per yer.

Dude got massive overpay with that first contract that I wouldn't be surprised if there was a wink-wink deal for this new contract right then and there.

Along with the player option cause he loves to bet on himself.
