Official Knicks Coaching Search Thread pt. 2 (update: poll added 6/18/25)

I'm still thinking the Mavs are dragging this out to bait the Knick into delaying their hire to disrupt the summer season activities. Plus how can you trust Kidd to not play along with that ruse, he has no genuine love for the Knicks, he was a Net for a long time.

Them losing assistants isn't enough smoke for me to think there's actually fire, it's a bong cloud because you're high if you think he's going to be the Knicks coach.

And the Mavs hate us almost as much as we hate them. The only counter to that is Kidd is represented by CAA and I doubt they would let the Mavs mess the Knicks up like this. To me this is all a game of chicken to get Kidd tripped since as of right now the Knicks have no competition for hiring anyway.

Is there any context to that quote? Other than requesting permission to speak to Kidd, there is no other process. It's entirely up to Kidd to ask for a larger extension or step down. That's all there is to it. Or he just stays on his current or new deal and that's a wrap.

You make a valid point that they may be stalling us for nefarious reasons.

Whatever is going on with Kidd and the rest is a little confusing to me. Time is ticking away as far as I am concerned.

Is there any context to that quote? Other than requesting permission to speak to Kidd, there is no other process. It's entirely up to Kidd to ask for a larger extension or step down. That's all there is to it. Or he just stays on his current or new deal and that's a wrap.

Idk they are still interviewing people. There is an argument that they are still looking. That tweet sounded more like Nori than it did Brown or Jenkins for example.

I'm so done w/ the Kidd rumors. I don't want him here anyway. He isn't exactly the most loyal, decent person

+ he's not as valuable to us if all his best assistants have left to take jobs elsewhere. don't you think if Kidd to the Knicks was happening, maybe Sweeney would consider becoming associate HC here instead of San Antonio (great situation, but I bet Dolan would pay more), or God Shammgod going to Orlando (a native NYer)

Basically everything that Thibs wasn't and everything that Bryant/ Jenkins/ Nori is.

Collaborate with the FO! OUCH! Like, isn't that a given?

Rose et al must have given Thibs some rope that did end up hanging him at the end of the year.

Great to see this because I do think some of the youth are worthy of more minutes and helping reduce the work load, even if it costs us wins during the regular season, we don't need home court and the pacers proved to some degree they didn't need.

And the last Knick team to get to the finals didn't need it.

In fact, it is so much easier to start on the road because the pressure is on the home team to hold serve and with as competitive as things have gotten, that is hard!

All this drama over the years around Kidd as a washed player and then head coach, and you start to forget him at Cal and when he first came into the league. An absolute f*cking WIZARD of a point guard. So unique as a player.

Step 1: If Kidd is choice #1, ask Mavs for permission to interview. They declined

Step 2: Now that Kidd knows there's interest, it's so widely reported now, it's on him to give the Mavs an ultimatum. why is this dragging out?

seems we're being leveraged because why wouldn't this be a done deal? it shouldn't/makes no sense to take 2 weeks from having our request declined for the Mavs to then finally let Kidd out of his deal (while also letting his top assistant Sweeney, a potential replacement go as well). draft night is tonight and they have the #1 pick, summer league is coming up soon, they're gonna want a HC in place to coach Cooper Flagg
