Not that KP was reliable but I hate this trade. Niang is not a good player and this was 100% to dump salary. I know JT is out next year but seems a little crazy to blow up a team that won a title last season.
Guess that is what happens when a new ownership takes over.

KP might have technically been top 5 player, but he missed close to half regular season games, most of the title run, and barely.played in the Knicks series
That is fair, but Boston was also losing to New York already with Tatum playing and Kristaps in the lineup.
Now that same team has a post-achilles injury Tatum, no Kristaps, no Jrue, and by the time Tatum comes back Derrick White will be 32 years old which is no guarentee he is still anywhere near as good.
IDK man - this feels like the end of these Celtics to me.
He technically played in the Knicks series but averaged 4 points on 38TS%. They will definitely have better production from the C position next run. Jrue was also pretty hobbled this post season runs. And they were right there with New York, first 3 loses average differential was 4 points.
They still have a solid core Tatum, White, Brown and Prtichard. Don't think it will take much around them to make a contender. But it will be tough for them to get to favorite status and 60 win teams

Well considering those 4 guys will make $154M on their own it is gonna be very, very tough to add to them.

That's what happens when a new CBA makes spending very punitive.The_Ghost_of_JB wrote:Not that KP was reliable but I hate this trade. Niang is not a good player and this was 100% to dump salary. I know JT is out next year but seems a little crazy to blow up a team that won a title last season.

Both of yesterday's moves were strictly to dodge the 2nd apron.
But when your 2 best players just had surgery, not that wild of an idea.

What can they realistically do to improve now? They don’t have salaries to match trades. They don’t have any intriguing prospects. Their 2028 pick is owned by SA. 2029 by I don’t know who.
Yes it is. People forget that these guys are 27, 28 and 30 years old. That's a core for 5 years at least.
Of course there's always a chance that Brad chooses to trade Brown. I'm quite confident in Brad's ability to reshape the roster and still be a contender.
Sure, and the Nets had Kyrie KD and Harden and never won anything. You need more than 3 guys to be a good team.
I really am not to scared of a White/Brown/Tatum team with no depth because lets be honest - Tatum/Brown are not some overwhelming good duo. Neither are a superstar talent ala Jokic/Doncic/SGA.
Tatum especially is gonna be exposed a bit when he is not on a stacked roster.
Brown and Tatum have played in 6 and 5 conference finals.
The KDs Nets didn't even get past the 2nd round once.
Your comparison is insulting to these guys.
And laughable.
Yes, you need more than 3 guys to be a good team. We do have more than 3 guys.
But if you have your main 3 guys, it's easier to build around. But you already know that.
You just want to disagree. Cool.
The Celtics ain't a team full of scrubs you know.

Yeah I’m not sure why some Celtic fans are still not grasping this new CBA.

The KD Nets also didn't have an incredible supporting cast of fringe all-stars to surround their top 2 guys. Guarantee KD/Harden/Kyrie win a ring if they had 2/4 of Jrue/Kristaps/White/Horford as well around them.
The Tatum/Brown combo is not so good they can take average pieces to the finals. Those Celtics teams were so good for so long because they constantly had a full rotation of really good pieces. And now they've just got rid of 2 of them for nothing, Horford is gonna age out, and White will to.
So yeah, by the time Tatum is healthy it mght be Tatum+Brown+PRichard and scrubs.

There is nothing that indicates that White won't be good at 32yo. It's not like his game is predicated on athleticism. I mean look at the year Jrue had a 32yo in his first season with Boston.
The cap is still rising at 10% each year and that front office has proven to continually retool the roster around the Jays. Even with an Achilles tear, he's still only be 28yo when he returns and about to enter his prime. They still own their 25, 26, 27 and 30 FRPs and with the two recent trades for the expiring contracts of Simons & Niang, will have a decent chunk of cap space to work with next offseason or dangle the combined 35.8 at the deadline for a piece now.

Frankly, I don't think he cares all that much about basketball. I don't have any evidence, it's just a vibe I get. I doubt being shipped to ATL is going to rekindle his passion for the game.
I think he cares he is just constantly injured. He spent so much time hurt this season and it was some weird ****, I thought we were going to have to attach a frp to get off his deal. Seems like a great teammate and he plays hard and tries to play when hurt, he's just made of glass.

This is a very important deal for Boston, worth a couple hundred million dollars. Let's hope KP passes medical.

this is a silly debate.
1 - "Nets didn't even get past the 2nd round once" --- They literally tried ONCE, and 2 of the 3 were injrued.
2 - There pretty broad consensus that the Nets are by far the favorites to win the title if it was not for the injuries.

The results stay in history. Everything else is your wish or your theory.
Tatum and Brown cannot be compared with KDs Nets. They even swept them fully healthy.
The one side made 2 finals, 5 and 6 conference finals and won a ring.
The other side is the most disappointing super team in history. These are the facts.

Maybe I'm wrong.
On our team, I think barring changes, which could happen outside of White/Brown, I think you're underestimating Pritchard and Simmons could look pretty good. I believe the Celtics will either draft or trade for a big man. Again, the Celtics could either try to compete and add a few more pieces or they could turn around and trade one of Brown/White and get a mid to late lotto pick in next year's draft(if they don't rest guys, I doubt they can be bad enough to have 20-25 wins).

I don't trust Zinger in Atlanta, but it's still worth the risk.
Celtics clearly didn't think Jrue and Zinger would be a part of a championship run in 2 years time, and I'm sure they're saving a crap ton of money.

Agree. What's going on Portland? And then they trade down in the draft for another center?
