And Nick Richards that they already acquired from Charlotte lol

Richards is a low-end backup/high-end 3rd string guy. Fine to keep as 3rd string here.

Maluach is a young rookie. A backup role, even for 2 or 3 seasons is fine. Expecting him to come in and start would have been a huge reach.

Meanwhile Charlotte lost one of their few credible rotation players.

This. Maluach has 4 years of organized basketball experience. He wasn't going to come in and start, and is more of a high upside pick at this point. Richard isn't a starting caliber C.

The Suns did well IMO.

Apparently a constantly injured center can still pull a first in this draft and another later first in another draft even after failing a physical :D

So your takeaway isn't that fans of a team badly overvalued their injury prone cneter but rather trying to justify your overvaluing?

Okay, I admire the double down, but you are definitely getting the wrong take from what just happened here lol.

No, i'm saying there is a little more to conversation than "this person is injured a lot therefore he has no value" but I admire your ability to somehow form an opinion on every single player and their value. I can barely keep up with the guys on the team I support lol

this franchise is underwater

Also someone probably needs to do a wellness check on Micic right now, he hated it here and probably was eyeing going back to Europe, and now he gets stuck in Charlotte another year, nobody wants this

He's agreed to terms in Europe, I think. Just waiting to be waived/option declined until this. Assume he'll negotiate a buyout or something?

he better give it all back. Adding $8M in dead cap as a result of the trade would just be insult to injury

I mean, he's likely not getting $8m in Europe

But yeah, hard to say. Maybe it's a ton given up? He wasn't going to get anything if his option was declined... :dontknow:

There's no way Phoenix can resign MW without paying a ton of tax, right? This is essentially a one year rental. Charlotte really did not want to give this guy a second contract

Given his durability issues they have restricted FA as a safety latch.

I came in hating it for the Suns, but since Hornet fans hate it so much I'm not so sure. But they gotta be moving the Duke project center - last thing they need.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Some of you really need to watch Mark when he's on the court. For how little time he's actually had to develop his game, he's been really productive. His presence alone is a game changer compared to the other worthless centers we've had over the last decade.

I think Beal is an expiring and likely gone next offseason, if not this offseason.

Beal is on the books for the next 2 seasons. I'm sure he's gone sooner, but HOW he's gone will greatly affect their future plans.

Suns has:

Mix and match amongst the options for best results.

Yes, that's what I said, he's an expiring next offseason. He'll be gone this off season or next offseason in a way that saves Suns enough money to be fine with bringing back Mark.

Even post-trade deadline when he was supposed to be all healthy, he still routinely sat out games.

It seems pretty obvious that our FO didn't believe in his health.

Yeah, nobody doubts Mark Williams abilities. He utilizes his size well and is a force offensively and on the glass and isn't clueless defensively like Wiseman.

The problem is, of course, his health concerns and how that will scale into the future.

Sorry. Read as if you said "Ithink Beal is an expiring....and likely gone next offseason".

But I wouldn't assume he's gone in a way that saves the Suns a ton of money. They might just have to straight waive him.
