Welcome V.J. Edgecombe

Post#1 » by Embiid P » Thu Jun 26, 2025 1:01 am

I think it's gotten to the point where it looks like we're keeping him so I'll start a thread. We got arguably the best athlete in the draft and a tough defender. The only issues are his size and unrefined jump shot. All in all, I think he'll be a good fit personality-wise. Basketball-wise, I expect one of Maxey or McCain to be moved in the not-so-distant future.

Remarkable athlete and will be a great shooter in the NBA. Good connective playmaking and should become a tertiary ballhandler one day. He's a 6'5 Jalen Suggs with a jetpack or Derrick White with bounce without even tapping into his big time scoring/slashing upside.

I like the pick, high floor/high ceiling

His potential depends on his shooting, but he has nice mechanics, he's already a good spot up shooter and has good FT%, so it's likely he's going to be just fine.

Only big concern is his fit with the Maxey/McCain combo, but I'm ok with drafting BPA and figuring it out later. Also, multiple guards lineups are more and more common, even more when you have a 6'5 hyperathletic, defensive stud guard like VJ. If he ends up being an athletic Derrick White that's already a damn good player and crucial piece for a winning team.

He's also a down to earth, hard working kid, which it's a huge plus in my book. I'm glad we dodged the 6'10 Markelle Fultz/Ben Simmons son.

Should be good, I dunno (comment for me 3 years down the road when I search for how I felt about him).

He's gotta stay healthy at the next level. From the looks of him he's tougher than a two dollar steak. You also want to draft a guy that is readily available.

If he had a 6'10" wingspan, I'd take him over Harper.

Excited to watch him as a Sixer. Crazy athlete with a lot of room to grow - given his work ethic I think he’ll develop his handle & finishing well over the next couple years.

Another high character hard worker in the locker room too. It will be very fun and easy to root for him.

What a likable guy. It will be much more fun rooting for him than it would have been trying to cheer Bailey on. Maybe he's a decent dude but all of this pre-draft nonsense makes me happier we ended up with VJ the dog.

He's going to be a positive impact player at the very least. High floor.

He plays like he has 6’10 wingspan. He just have narrow shoulders.

We’re honestly just one starting-caliber center away from being a legit playoff team even without Jojo. While VJ is still getting his feet wet and adjusting to NBA competition, we already have capable scoring options in Maxey, George, and Grimes, with McCain coming off the bench.

Defensively, we’ve got a group that can carry their weight and potentially make us one of the league leaders in steals and deflections, giving us extra possessions if our offense can’t always keep pace with the top teams.

I believe our guard depth and overall talent are exactly what you need in today’s NBA. Teams like the Pacers and OKC have shown the blueprint, and we’re built in that mold. Hopefully, we can buy enough rest during the season for Embiid and George so those two can still carry us in the playoffs.

VJ’s development and opportunity will scale gradually, he’ll get more reps as Embiid and George decline, and he has the offseason to keep making real strides.

He’s got a legitimate chance to become a star. But even if he doesn’t hit that ceiling, he still projects as a high-impact, winning player in the mold of Jrue Holiday or Derrick White. While we can be patient, stacking up the right type of players by making the right moves and eventually find a replacement for Embiid for a smooth transition.

Put some weight on, stop ball watching on defense and you’ll be ready to contribute next year.

He might be our best rebounder and passer which might say more about our team than him.

Incorrect. Perhaps you missed the gaping hole at PF. We have nothing NBA quality there. At least behind Embiid we have Bona who looked good last year.
