I like the way he sounds...

He's a true center who can serve as a defensive anchor in the paint and has significant potential for growth physically and skillwise. He plays with tremendous intensity and is beloved by coaches and teammates because of his off-court intangibles.

His ability to protect the rim, cover ground in a variety of pick-and-roll schemes, and provide vertical spacing as a roller and cutter while sprinting aggressively in transition will appeal to any team seeking a center to build around in the long term.

If Maluach defends, blocks shots, and dunks under the hoop... we're in great shape.

It would be hilarious if the Suns traded Beal to Hornets for Miles Bridges, Grant Williams, and Josh Okogie. Just making another trade with the Hornets is what would be funny to me.

Wondering what people think now about the decision of the Suns to take Green + Brooks and the 10th pick over Green and Jabari Smith. Would yall rather have Green and Smith or Green Brooks and Maluach?

It wasn't a decision for us to make. Jabari wasn't on the table.

Thrre was a story that it was an earlier option but the Suns wanted the 10 also. So a later version gave us the 10 but with Brooks not Smith.

No Rockets said they wanted KD to mentor Smith and Smith was not on the block. They didn't include him at all

He is a very good predictor since we traded pick 29 and there is only one round today.

Also had 5 shots at Maluach in his Gambo 5 and he wasn't in it.

Not to protect Gambo but when he announced the Gambo 5 today on his radio show he said he would have included Maluach but he thought he would be gone by our pick at 10. He said if he was there, we would pick him.

I have heard that Maluach does have an outside shot capability. He might not have used it at Duke due to the offense they ran and wanted him to be in position for the offensive rebound.

How about waiting to see what appears to be a legit NBA center play prior to saying he cannot do things.

I think that this was absolutely the right pick and am excited to see him play. Gillespie can throw him lobs on the 2nd unit. Quite frankly Book did not do a bad job with Ayton. This guy could be better than Ayton. I just hope he has a little nasty in him or Brooks give him some.

Was reported Miami might be interested in Martin. Maybe a deal there?

His draft profile reads as a much bulkier Mo Bamba but lets hope he will have a better career arc than him.

If he can average a near double double that will be meeting expectations for us.

Projection: It’s really difficult to project who Maluach will become. His measurements and late entry into basketball leads me to believe that he still has lots of room to grow. But progression doesn’t ever work out like that.

Still, Maluach’s shown a great foundation and is on pace to become an All-Defensive calibre player (his defensive ceiling). There’s not much to go off of in regards to his offense, but he’s shown some touch around the rim to where he’ll be respectable in the paint with push shots. His three-point shot will never really be a part of his game despite his great free throw shooting numbers

Ceiling: All-Defensive calibre rim protector with the versatility to play most coverages. Offensive game progresses to the point where he has a respectable post bag and three-point shot on moderate volume

Floor: Third string big who can play spot minutes as a defense only, play finisher. Progression never accelerates to where some hoped it would be

Comparison: Deandre Jordan with Rudy Gobert measurements

Strengths

Has great measurables and able to take up lots of space in the paint
Not the most vertically gifted/explosive jumper, but more than makes up for it with his huge standing reach
The best lob threat in this class
Has a large catch radius and can finish lobs/dumpoffs for easy buckets
Knows how to set screens, makes contact and gives handler open lanes
Really impressed here, a lot of guys with a lot more experience aren’t as effective as he is
Rolls with intention, always a threat for the lob
Free throw shooting numbers are great, mechanics look smooth
Comfortable in most pick and roll coverages, functions best as the drop man
Decent technique backpedaling and guarding both ball handler and his own man
Knows when to stay to provide help in the paint
Really good at staying vertical and positioning himself to scare teams from even getting shots up
Shows nice discipline here
Not a guy who gets lots of blocks, but when he does, you can expect an emphatic swat
Weaknesses/Improvements

Offensive role is limited to play finishing, no post-up game or ability in short roll situations
Has shown some flashes in BAL where he hit a couple of fadeaways and scored on faceups
Shown touch around the rim on non-dunk attempts, untapped potential here
Nice mobility for size, but susceptible to blowbys switching onto quicker players.
Only started playing basketball 5 years ago, lack of reps evident:
Unable to make any passing reads apart from kickouts from offensive rebounds
Gets out positioned on defensive rebounds, doesn’t have the technique or lower body strength to box out smaller centres
Had some funny moments where he would be face-to-face, pushing opponent in the chest trying to box them out
Big reason for why his offensive rebounding numbers are so much better. Less technique focused, erratic rebounding angles paired with his length can catch centres off guard
Stays on ball handler too long on hard hedges, instead of recovering to man
Goes for bad block attempts sometimes, can bite on fakes from more crafty post players
As good as he is timing his jumps for lobs, not very efficient with movement
Takes tiny stutter steps, preparing himself to jump. Never jumps off of 1-foot

He's still 18 so he has room to grow and gain strength it's more the intangibles and basketball IQ that has me concerned.

I don't want another Bol Bol.

I’ve stated it before. Projects never work. But mostly Low IQ. Every draft profile on him is low IQ. That’s very worrisome. By every report, super nice kid and a great team cheerleader but the scouting does cause some beads of sweat for worry. This pick was super important for the future Ishbia envisions to keep Booker around. If this pick doesn’t work out, this could put this team into a deeper hole for longer.

This dude weighs double Bol Bol, has better defense, and doesn't play soft.

Playing a year behind williams, and richards will be good for him
