If Newell is better than Queen, New Orleans looks really bad giving up an unprotected pick next year.

Does the Shams ‘intel’ right before the pick gets announced seem overly fake to anyone else?

Could we have gotten this 24th pick?

you mean 32? Or you mean one of those nothing swaps?

No, the ‘26 swap.

i dont follow. we already sent that to New Orleans for Jrue and now Atlanta owns the rights to it.

Wonder how patient the Hawks are going to be. The pick could be massively valuable at the deadline and could be used to add another starter putting them in the Top 4 in the east (if they stay healthy). Could see them trading it away. But if they are patient, adding another young piece to the core would be huge,

We would be swapping again, just like we did with the ‘28 pick.

I don’t think NOP is making the playoffs, and I think we are.

Edit: Worth mentioning that my understanding is Atlanta is getting the better pick between NOP or MIL, but I don’t think that means they are getting the 1st and the swap which they could use with their ATL pick. I think our swap just stayed attached to the NOP pick only.

oh, so a nothing swap. basically it's completely useless to a team that is equal or worse than us, and has a very small value to a team better than us. someone just paid two 2nds to move up three spots. that's probably the estimated value if we are trading with a top end contender, all things considered.

Yes, there would only be value to a team that thinks they are much better than us.

Ideally, that team thinks we’ll be worse than we end up being. If OKC thought they might be able to move up 15 spots, and we think it would actually be something like 5, or not at all (lol), there’s value in it for us.

But then again if Giannis gets injured, we lose that safety net for what little value we would get this draft (a mid-second?)

ETA: Assuming the Pelicans suck and in this scenario Giannis gets injured and we get like the 10th pick. (hell, he gets injured or we just suck and trade him at the deadline)

Did Brooklyn keep all of their picks?

We’ve already lost the safety net, in the case of a Giannis injury, with the initial swap.

The idea would be to get a late first if someone is there that you love, or, probably a smarter route, adding that pick to the ‘31 1st to make a better package.

Moot point now, though.

Horst ties his best result of the first round by not doing anything at all.
