If I'm reading this right Joan of Arc's actual name was Joan Beringer.

Yes, Joan of Arc, also known as Joan Beringer, is widely known by the nickname "The Maid of Orléans". She also referred to herself in letters as "Jeanne la Pucelle" ("Joan the Maiden") or "la Pucelle" ("the Maiden").

I mean wasn’t that the case when Connelly selected Berringer?

Speak It Into Existence: Wolves Need To Draft Joan Beringer (Center, France) We Can’t Lose The Recipes!
He is 6'11 without shoes with a 7'5 wingspan. He wont be 19 til November, he’s only played basketball for 4 years., while that might sound disheartening he’s what Nbadraft.net had to say about him “quick-twitch athleticism that jumps off the film … Brings consistent energy and a high motor — a tone-setter defensively who elevates his team’s effort level when on the floor … Extremely mobile for his size — light on his feet, with the ability to slide, rotate, and recover in space … Defensive versatility is a major calling card: capable of switching onto guards, defending in drop, and hedging ball screens … Elite rim protector with strong timing and instincts as a help-side shot block”

Here’s What I mean by losing Recipes We already doing it with Mike and Rob, let’s keep it going with Joan and Gobert.

He’s a tremendous leaper who can sky for the basketball, but more than that, his hands are phenomenal. He catches everything both in and outside of his area with ease. He fits the archetype of a rim-running, shot-swatting big man who will have low offensive usage but be able to play in versatile situations on defense if his game develops well over the next three years.

Who does that sound like? (Minus the hands). Who was a young untapped center from France who knows exactly what Joan could go through? Gobert and Joan Make too much sense together, DONT LOSE THE RECIPES

I wanted Sorber but having missed out there's a lot to like about this pick.

Offensively he's extremely raw outside pick and diving and put backs when it comes to scoring but I've seen a couple scouting reports touting his footwork, feel for offensive rebounds and some guys are really high on his potential ability to pick after putting some weight on. There's some serious Rudy type pick potential and as most Wolves fans know, Rudy gets guys great shots off picks. some euro scouts also expect his feel for diving to be much more useful in the NBA against less fundamentally sound players and schemes. If the kid can pick a guard, grab rebounds, dunk lobs and dive he can at least be a functioning part of an offense. And he'll need to do all that cause that shot needs a complete overhaul. Like from the legs up. And that's gonna take 2-3 years if it ever does come. Luckily he seems to have better hands than Rudy.

Defensively he has Tyson Chandler upside. Completely switchable, great feel for rim protection, great feet to keep position and avoid fouling, good fundamental hand work, can easily recover and seems to have some natural patience in waiting for the ball handler to make his move, which is pretty crazy for a guy that's that young and inexperienced and can only be instinctual at that point. I'm not huge on his defensive rebounding but there's every chance he wasn't being asked to clear the glass on D. His offensive rebounding would lead me to believe he could easily be a glass cleaner on defense, but it's not really in the highlights.

If the kid works (and I doubt Rudy will let him slack) he'll be a starting center in 3 years, a reliable backup probably by next year. He's an NBA player with NBA tools, but he needs a ton of refinement.
From a fundamental standpoint it is better for a man to have nothing but be under the protection of Jesus Christ than for him to have everything he could ever want yet be completely without.

Hopefully, Beringer is giving us 6-8 minutes per game as our backup C by then. :)

Kinda, but they very different type of players. A defensive athletic rim runner, or a skilled point forward, playmaking and ball handling as a big.

Looks like he has the potential to be Rudy light in terms of defensive anchor. For only playing 4 years of basketball overall, he appears to have good instincts defensively.

The soccer/futbol definitely helps with his coordination and recovery speed. He also has good straight line speed and should help with transition defense and offense.

His work ethic and drive to develop will be the difference.

One concern I noticed from his highlights is that he does seem to hit the floor a bit. Not sure if it’s a lack of strength or just coincidental due to the contact.

I think he needs to get in game reps immediately if they expect him to be a rotation guy going forward.

@Sam_Vecenie
on the Wolves taking Joan Beringer:

"This is like the easiest pick in the world. Beringer is a real developmental player. He is an incredible athlete. Like an unbelievable athlete. 6-foot-11, 7-foot-5 wingspan, super long arms, great hands — catches everything in his area. Moves like a wing. Moves at a level that no other big in this class really achieves.

He's just very raw. It's gonna take some time. There is legitimately no better player for Beringer to learn from in the NBA than Rudy Gobert, because this is the exact archetype. This is exactly what it is. So I think this is a great pick from Tim Connelly. I think it makes a ton of sense, and I am a huge fan of what they've done here."

I read NBADraft.NET often. According to them, Joan Beringer's NBA comparison is Yves Missi. I don't know who that is and I watched a lot of NBA. The only highlight they show of him is just dunking up close. If Gobert has a short range, this guy is even shorter.

The fact that they didn't even use half the clock and he's polar opposite of Sorber physically makes me wonder if they would've taken Beringer even if Sorber was on the board.

Also makes me think that since he's a 3-4 year project guy, they expect both Randle and Naz back. This is a post-Rudy pick, which I've been calling for awhile, but doesn't have huge on-court impact until the time comes.

Maybe so. At least Beringer worked out here and they got to see him live.
That's a little bit encouraging.
Drafting blindly on raw potential is a road to disaster.

OKC passed on Beringer and they could have stashed him in Europe for a season too which would have helped solve their roster crunch.
OKC's modus operandi is 2 way players, and Beringer offers nothing offensively right now.
Sorber is going to have to beat out Jaylin WIlliams and others just for rotation minutes, even though they regularly play 10+ players in the regular season. They must really like him.

Missi was a late 1st rounder for the Pelicans last year who surprised and played well. Beringer is a little bigger, more athletic, and Misi was 2 years older.

I loved Juan Berenguer as a middle reliever in the 80’s for the twins. Expect a lot of shrink confused posting.
