No. You are not following the conversation. It's all good, Bondy reads this board is where the conversation starts.

NO ONE has reported that Kidd wanted a NEW extension at all. People kept saying Dallas has to give him an extension. No they don't. He already has one. At no point since Luka was traded was there any talk about Kidd or an extension at all. When we asked for permission, people kept taking like Kidd was DUE an extension. He is not. He already has one. After I commented on this fact, in response to a Bondy tweet, SUDDENLY Bondy is saying Kidd is angling for an extension. Not even a NEW extension. When did he get that news? Where was it reported that Kidd wants a NEW extension? It wasn't. It's like he read this board and is changing up his reporting on it

It wasn't that serious but, there it is.

Marc Stein mentioned it like a week ago. It wasn’t just Bondy.

Also, check your tone. No reason to get worked up over this.

Check your own tone. I don't have a tone.

Stein did not report Kidd wants a new extension. I just rwad a tweet earlier from him. He reported that Dallas hasn't given him an extension yet. They did, a year ago. No one has said he wants a NEW extension. There was never any discussion about him not being happy there. Nothing. Three weeks ago we mentioned interest and people said he needs an extension. Then everyone kept repeating it. It wasn't true.

Stein did say this ends with an extension. You just want to ignore it for some reason. This isn’t about happy or not. 2 coaches just got extensions and no one reported they were unhappy.

This is from over a week ago -

The Dallas Mavericks’ Jason Kidd and the Chicago Bulls’ Billy Donovan are two the New York might circle back to in the coming weeks, according to league sources. The belief around the league is that Kidd and Donovan are looking for contract extensions from their current franchises, and if those don’t materialize, they might be open to joining the Knicks.

This was from June 13
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6425152/2025/06/13/knicks-coaching-search-taylor-jenkins-mike-brown/

So it has been said the belief is Kidd is in fact looking for an extension. I also did find an article that said Kidd has just 2 years remaining on his deal - which would make more sense why he does in fact want one (as mentioned earlier, Ime Udoka got a new extension despite having 2 years left on his current deal)

Bondy also directly said Kidd is angling for an extension, but Dallas wants to do it later in the offseason (which would help their leverage greatly if by that point Knicks have hired a coach).

To me it's obvious Kidd either wants to coach NY - because he will get a big fat new contract, or he's happy to stay coaching Dallas - as long as he gets an extension in the ball park of what he thinks NY would give him.

It’s looked like that to me for weeks now. Kidd either gets what he wants from the Mavs or he steps down and the Knicks hire him.

Too many reporters are saying it, Kidd and the Mavs haven’t shut down the rumors, and the Knicks seem perfectly fine dragging this out until FA. Also Kidds assistants are all leaving because the Mavs didn’t retain them.

jfc. Kidd already has an extension. The Dallas Mavericks do not have to give him one. It was never even a discussion BEFORE WE ASKED TO TALK TO HIM. Once we did ask....people were saying Dallas has to give him an extension. NO THEY DONT! At no point has it been reported...again actual facts reported...not speculation..,,that Kidd qas asking for a NEW extension.

As for what I waa ACTUALLY talking about in my OP is that Bondy changed his tune after reading this board. It was basically a joke but, it went to the fact that Kidd already has an extension. It wasn't that serious to begin with. Fury got all twisted for no reason. And now you're here trying to correct something that doesn't need correction.

If Kidd wants a NEW extension...then he would make that known. Until now, he hasn't hinted at anything in the media. Nothing. He's looking forward to coaching up Flagg and he interviewed new assistants because his other guys were getting job offers and leaving. Going about his business as Mavs head coach. Where did Bondy here he is angling for a new extension all of a sudden? His sources in Dallas? please. Bondy is Knicks for clicks. Just like basically EVERYONE else that keeps dragging this out.

I dont even want Kidd in the first place and it's also a lil concerning that if we were to get him all his assistants are bailing for other jobs. Wouldn't we want to retain them.

Idk, truthfully I never paid attention to our coaching hires cause we always had such shtty teams that this process didnt matter. No chef can turn a Lunchable into a gourmet meal.

good. let's move on.

I'm team Brown (Quinn and Borrego next up for me). get a HC hired. spare no expense to get the best assistants possible (no salary cap on coaches), and let's get to summer league and get a better sense of our young players. As of rn, Kolek, Dadiet, Huk, McCullar, Watson, Nnaji are gonna be players to watch. Hopefully we can pick up an earlier 2nd, some really solid wing/forward prospects still available. gotta be able to hit on a few of these young players w/ this CBA

I find the whole thing annoying. I find the reporting on it to be equally annoying. I wasn't expecting them to hire someone immediately after firing Thibs but, this approach has made very little sense to me. The Kidd part is being dragged out the most obviously. It's a dirty situation too. Not really a good look IMO. If any of it is true, we sparked a contract dispute with another teams coach? Really? If he signs a new one, then what? It's shady business IMO.

In the meantime, Jenkins/Brown/Nori with Borrego in the chamber. Chris Quinn in the rumor mill. Things are sorta picking up on that front. I'm not as patient as others seem to be. Hopefully they get the interviews over soon and Hire one. I don't even care who at this point!

Maybe they hire one of the assistants as HC and bring in one of Jenkins/Brown as asst? Idk.

I want them to interview Borrego and Quinn. I will be happy if at some point in the next 7 days.... that's my damn limit!!!...they make a decision.

Im normally impatient but for some reason I dont mind this wait. Might be cause im use to the knicks making terrible decisions and with Kidd and brown seeming to be the front runners id rather stay in limbo than have to root for Kidd.

And I haven't kept up. Kinda in the whatever happens happens mode of things.

I wish i took your approach. I was shocked Thibs was fired in the first place. The beginning of this search was just odd. Then the reporting was all over the place. I am just glad the list is getting longer. I just think messing with other teams HC is kind of a dick move.

The pace makes me feel like they aren't looking to really do much outside of fringe moves this summer. Would prefer to know who they're building the roster out for sooner than later. That's my hang up.

We have 8mil under the to spend on TPMLE Vet minis or whatever Aller , magic happens. I think it will go up to just over 10 when they drop Tucker TO. We need at least 4 players with that money. Fun times. That's what I think the summer will be about.

Jenkins isn't my first choice.
Brown lost his team in year three after doing great things in SAC. Not my choice at all.
Nori. Funny guy. Read good things about him. Has a tiny bit of playoff experience. Said to check off the boxes of what the Knicks are looking for. So does Jenkins. Would be scared if they hired Nori honestly.
Borrego and Quinn I really know nothing about. Borrego is Pop tree. Coached a terrible CHA team. Quinn is a complete mystery, who they have t asked for permission yet.

Gun to my head....this is a tough one....is Kidd still an option? :o

Maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but I pay attention to detail and I noticed that Ian Begley misspoke.

According to Begley, Nico said Jason Kidd will be the Dallas coach next year; however, Nico didn't say that. His exact words were: "Yes, he will be the coach next year." He never said the coach of Dallas.

Was that simply an error on his part, or was he purposely playing with words?? :dontknow:
