Draft’s over but still dreaming of trading down..

Some good options at #35. I would take Fleming, Raynaud or Kalkenbrenner. If we had a good shooting team, I'd definitely consider Thiero.
You colud be right, but not now.
McCain coming out of an injury is far away to maximize his trade value.
It's better to re-sign Grimes and figure out later (let's say around the trade deadline) which guard is expendible to balance the rotation

Morey addressed the “too many guards” concern, and his answer was pretty much exactly what I’ve been saying for weeks.

Re: Draft Day Shenanigans (IV)
Fleming's shooting is probably fake, but there's intrinsic value in adding a 6'9" athletic, defensive & play-finishing wing w/ a 7'5 wingspan to our frontcourt.
Would quite literally fortify the final chapter of Joel Embiid's career to finally have this sort of profile alongside him for the rebounding and rim protection relief alone.

Really jealous of that ATL trade down. So unenthused with anyone available I would've thought about doing that for 3. Hope I eat these words.

Well wasn't that exactly what Ben Simmons did? Richaun Holmes also provided that for a brief stint.
I agree, he would be an exciting prospect, even though his jumper is probably not real. But he's massive and athletic, we could definitely use that in our roster.

The Spurs GM was also asked about their guard depth and potential redundancy. He pointed out that the team that won had a 6’5” player defending the opposing center

5th pick in 2nd round. Think that one of Fleming, Kalkbrenner or Penda make sense as a big forward on the bench or back-up/third string center in case Embiid isn't healthy and/or Drummond is traded.

He must have mistaken Dylen Harper for Edgecombe then !!

They both have the same standing reach.

Embiid quietly has an unusually high bar for his frontcourt partner at the 4. He needs someone who’s basically a unicorn, a stretch big who can protect the rim, put the ball on the floor, make smart reads, and pass at a high level. Batum might be the closest fit we’ve seen. The next is the version of Ben Simmons in his offseason workouts. I wonder if PG will eventually play more of a PF, similar to Durant and LeBron right now.

I read somewhere that ownership told him flat out do not trade down. Read this like a hour before the draft.
It was a CBS report that Bodner referenced. However, if you follow the Sixers organization closely, you know that report makes no sense. Reporters throw a lot of crap out there to try exchange favors with their sources because they know some fans will latch onto anything.
If you choose to believe that report, then were all the reports of them possibly trading down lies? Or did Josh Harris issue this demand one hour before the draft?
After five years of Morey running the Sixers front office like the Wild West, Harris draws the line at trading down on a draft pick lol. Morey gets caught tampering, lost draft picks for not disclosing injuries, fined multiple times for not reporting injuries as per league rules, Ben holdout, Harden holdout, sign a 35 year old to a $200+ million contract, sign an injured player to a four year extension over a year before his contract expires… but Harris finally steps in to tell him he can’t trade down.
Fact that VJ was the selection makes your point even more. Who would step in for that?
I don’t think anybody would step in for a team taking their third ranked prospect with the third pick. You are really struggling to separate your opinion of the prospects from the team’s opinion of the prospects. Some people take longer to grasp reality, but you will get there.

That was when Joel Embiid was superman. When Joel Embiid was a walking top five defense single handedly. When Embiid could guard the perimeter for half the game, step up into the p&r without getting attacked and still reduce threat at the rim.
He's far from that level of athlete at this point and the NBA is sizing up. As seen with OKC getting iHart to change their defense with Chet. Giannis playing with Lopez. The Celtics constantly alternating between Horford, KP, Kornet and Tatum.
Neither Oubre nor George are even in that same size bracket. Neither offer any resilience at the rim and minimal rebounding.
How many series' have we lost now due to our inability to match-up when the games get bigger?
The Raptors in 2019 checkmated us by playing more Ibaka and less Green when they fell behind 3-2. Lost in 7.
The Celtics in 2023 checkmated us by going double big with Rob Williams alongside Horford when they fell behind 3-2. Lost in 7.
It goes without saying how the Knicks punished us along the margins due to second chance points and rebounding.
That isn't to say Fleming has to play every minute of every game. You can mix and match lineups where you size down with more shooting but if we don't even have the option to make proactive situational line-up tweaks then just abandon the season before it begins.

There's evidence against him being their number 3, the begging for a meeting before VJ came and again after, but we'll agree to disagree

Re: Draft Day Shenanigans (IV)
Weaknesses: Not a shot creator, really struggles at times with creating his own offense … .Though an adequate athlete, he lacks quickness and struggles to get separation because of poor ball-handling … Struggles to go left and is a predictable slasher with limited moves … Can become passive and ineffective if his shot isn’t falling…A bit mechanical, lacks fluidity to his game … His in-between game needs improvement, especially considering he will have a tougher time getting to the rim off the bounce at the pro level … Really struggles to convert near the rim, even at the mid-major, so it is difficult to project him as more than just a floor spacer on offense at the NBA level … Shot just 41% inside the arc as a Jr. and 46% for his career, illustrating his lack of finishing ability …

I get what you’re saying, and I agree, I actually brought up the same idea before about running a double-big lineup. I even suggested to trade for Siakam, and look at how great the ECF MVP was. A lot of our playoff losses have come down to the size issues at the 4 and 5.
Back then, the response I got was that size wasn’t the problem because Embiid had a strong +/- and the real issue was our backup center. Funny enough, that take came from a mod. But anyway, carry on.
