Re: 2025 NBA Draft Thread 2.0
Richardson is going to be a fascinating case of analytics versus eye test.
The analytics say he’s a ruthlessly efficient scorer who also makes plays defensively while avoiding mistakes at an elite level. By pretty much any analytical metric you want, he was a top 10-15 player in the class.
The eye test says he’s a 6’1” shooting guard that doesn’t have elite quickness or athleticism and struggles to use his off hand. Those factors alone would probably have most people ranking him in the 25-35 range just off the eye test.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft Thread 2.0
So let me get this straight, we picked at #25 and got a guard 3pt shooter, overall scorer, and ball handler? All huge needs for this team. That’s pretty damm good for 25.

meh....He only made 1.3 threes a game
It's hard to extrapolate much on his offense considering he got limited minutes for half of the season. Advanced stats like him a lot. We're on of the few teams that can cover his height issues.
EDIT:
Actually his BPM his 11.5 is pretty damn good, and is not minutes based.
His low volume gave me some pause but it’s still a solid sample size over an extended period and the advanced stats are pretty insane. Plus his 3pt shooting in tournament play ans a starter was insanely good. Absolutely worth a shot given the few other options left on the board.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft Thread 2.0
I had Warriors no 23 Jason Richardson jersey, dude had legit Jordan-like dunks in early 2000s, it is bit strange that Jase is so much shorter than Jason.
Dude went from 6'3 in shoes and alleged some 190-200 pounds to 6'1 in shoes and sub 180 pounds. That pretty much iced his draft stock because he is even too small for traditional PG, let alone combo guard or shooting guard. He also is nowhere near as explosive or quick as Jason was. Jason was legit human grenade attacking rim.
I have no clue what to expect, hopefully his ball handling isn't THAT bad and playmaking can be improved.
Draft was bit strange, i really expected some crazy trades. Ofc it can still all happen. But very quiet night.
Grizzlies used one of Magic picks to get Cedric Coward.
Coward is, on paper, perfect prospect. 6'6 -214, lean, 38 inch vertical, almost 7'3 wingspan, can shoot, like dude looks like long lost Kawhi's brother. Even their playing style is very, very similar. We'll se how it works for Grizzlies, but, just how i felt about Bane trade from their POV, it's another trade offer that was hard to resist.
Nets drafting was interesting. I am bit shocked that Traore fell to #19. Scouts/GMs got him wrong imo. He was 18 years old kid in French league, that is without any questions, second most athletic league in the world behind NBA.
Wemby in that league, at 18, wasn't really "popping", it was year later when he popped up and looked how he looked that granted him "best prospect since Lebron "title.
Traore can organize offense, has strong handles and can pass better than vast majority of players of his age. He had terrible start of a season, but actually was really good at the end.
Egor thing is crazy. Kid is legit one of most exiting passers over size 6'5 i've seen in very, very long period of time. Like, watching love child of Kukoc and Jason Williams.
Most people will slap that lazy "Giddey" comparison, but he is way better in traditional pick&roll and better athlete, and much better at generating own shots around rim in pick&roll ( shot 61% at rim in half court ). And 6'9- with 32 inch vert. Nothing groundbreaking, but also not bad at all for that size. Unlike Giddey he looks like he has body where you can put muscle on him without much problems, where Giddey always looked like Justin Bieber megafan who lacks testosterone
Shooting needs to get much better. Much, much better.
Powell should be 3 and D wing.
And Wolf and Saraf are interesting. Not that high on them but whatever.
I'll be watching some Nets games, that's very interesting haul from draft to me.
I think Hornets should have made trade down, Kon, to me, is overdrafted.
Oh and Dallas won a night 2 min into a draft

Fleming still being available is pretty wild to me. If we could trade up to grab him with an early 2nd I’d be stoked.

Interesting the Magic went Spartan when there was a clear option for a Wolverine: Wolf.

Been reading a lot of teams were wary of his shooting and level of competition. He was able to bully inferior competition despite only beibg 6'8

Do you like Jrich shooting? He is known as a dunker more than anything..
Jason Richardson was definitely a 3-point shooter. Yes, he was uber-athletic. Yes, he was one of the greatest dunkers in the league. But he was a shooter too. His most prolific year, he shot north of 40% on 3s on a league-leading 7.3 3pt attempts per game. He was a career 37% 3-pt shooter in an era where the 3-point shot wasn't a focal point.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

During 07-08 season, he averaged 3 threes made a game.
League's average, for teams were 6,6 a game

Not surprised at all
Said it earlier, the guy had no offense outside of catch and shoot 3pt. No post game, no handles and can't create for himself. Basically Jonathan Isaac on offense without the size

true for all of us...if he was even 2" taller with the same wings, he'd have been gone by 12

Re: 2025 NBA Draft Thread 2.0
I wish one of Powell or Newell had fallen. I'd have been looking at what it took to move up 2 picks for Newell.
Pepe, fully agree about Traore. I'd have taken him at our original pick without blinking.

The worst thing about the Jett pick is that it seemed like everyone in the basketball world knew it was a bad pick as soon as it was made except Weltman.
