Who Needs A Center?

Post#1 » by DaVoiceMaster » Thu Jun 26, 2025 5:17 am

The Blazers have 5 centers. I imagine they want to keep the two young players, which leaves the other three players, all with expiring contracts:

DeAndre Ayton - $35,550,814
Robert Williams III - $13,285,713
Duop Reath - $2,221,677

I doubt any will fetch a first round pick so what else do you have to offer?

Portland Roster
PG - Holiday / Scoot
SG - Thybulle / Sharpe / Rupert
SF - Grant / Camara / Murray
PF - Williams III / Avdija
_C - Ayton / Clingan / Reath / Yang

Honestly, any of those starters are available. Ideally, the Blazers could use a backup SG, SF, PF or a 3rd string PG, C.

Pack them in a van, put them on the I-5 south lane, release the hand breaks, they'll reach their destination at the end of the road.

You could send Williams and Maluach to the Blazers. That would fit their plan to collect as many centers as possible.

Lakers is the obvious answer. Do they want Ayton or Robert Williams?

Kleber + Shake Milton + LAL 32 2nd for RWIII makes sense.

Ayton is really hard to match though...

Couldn't they just do Rui + Vincent or Kleber + Knecht for Ayton? Take on about 4m in salary. Or am I way off on Aytons value there?

Kleber, Vincent, Vanderbilt, and Knecht for Ayton & Murray works in Spotrac. Having said that, I dont think Portland wants Vanderbilt's long contract and the Lakers don't have much to sweeten the deal. I can't see them including their 2031 pick so you're probably right.

The question is do the Lakers really want to bust all their tradable salary on him?

Rui + kleber + vincent
For
Ayton + Kris Murray

I don't think Williams really has any value or he'd be gone by now. Hes probably moved/cut at the deadline, getting mins while helping ease the young centers in to start the season.

They can't add on salary, they need to be above the 1st Apron.

Rui is a better player than Ayton, Rui, Vincent and Knecht are real rotation players, 70+ MPG in RS and 50 MPG in the PO, they can't lose them for a gamble at C that hasn't worked since 2022...

Spurs, but none of these: Ayton is too expensive, RWIII too injured, and Reap too much of a scrub (you can pick up better players with different exceptions). I don't see the Blazers landing anything significant for these, maybe a 2nd rounder plus expirings for RWIII. However, you can something more substantial back if you also eat some salary, but the value here would arise from eating bad money as opposed to sending a valuable player.

I do not think Ayton pulls an asset beyond a 2nd or two.

I'm with Mavrelous and don't think Rui for Ayton makes sense. Rui, Kleber, and Vincent for Ayton and Murray is the Blazers just trading expiring players. There is no incentive for Portland. Knecht needs to be included and that's where the salaries don't match up unless you include Vanderbilt for Rui. Maybe the Lakers include Reeves or DFS, but then it doesn't make sense for LA.

I think if were moving a 1st, Vando should be in the deal.

Maxi and Gabe expirings+Vando+Shake/Goodwin+2031 1st with some protections (top 10?) for Ayton?

Can also go Knecht instead of the 1st, maybe we ask for a 2nd back here?

If Rui is in the deal, then it would be something like Rui+Vando+Kleber for Ayton+Murray

If we cant get a guy like Kessler or Allen with all of our assets excluding Reaves (so the 2031 1st, Knecht, swaps, Rui, expirings), then its onto the tier of guys like Gafford, Ayton, and Claxton

If those dont work out due to asking price/salaries, then I dont mind risking it for Rw3 and signing a C/trading for a guy like Goga with Knecht or lotto protected 1st

Use rest of assets on a defensive guard/wing

Blazers get Rui, Vando, Gabe, Kleber, LAL31FRP
Lakers get Ayton, RW3

Lakers take both C's but very unlikely.

I think the obvious trade is:

Blazers get Knecht, Kleber+Gabe (expiring)

Lakers get RW3, Thybulle

Lakers then get Horford or Capela in FA and bring back Jaxson.

PG: Reaves | Exum | Bronny
SG: Luka | Thybulle | Milton
SF: DFS | Rui | #55
PF: LeBron | Vando | LaRavia
C: RW3 | Horford/Capela | Hayes

He’s hardly better than Rui at center.

RWIII for Vincent (or Kleber) and pick 55

We know the talent of RWIII, but when you've only played 61 games in three years and just had another knee surgery, I can't see him bringing much more in value beyond the $1.5-2 million savings from the swap and a late scratch-off.
