Gonna need to grab some popcorn if this happens. This board going to explode if the Celtics flip Simons for FRP's.

Holiday still has value, especially to teams in "win now" mode. He just seems like an odd fit for this team's trajectory. Perhaps those teams didn't have pieces that interested Boston.

It's still possible this was really a "3 team trade" done in multiple parts. But the reporting suggests otherwise.

It was pretty widely reported that because the deal isn't official until July that both teams could explore ways to make it bigger. So I would say definitely still possible this deal gets expanded.

I would be equal parts annoyed because that's what I want more than a "adult in the room" so-to-speak (even though I do believe in the value of that, especially for a young team), but also enjoy it just for the reaction of fans here.

I'm skeptical Boston will be able to do that and still keep the financial flexibility that precipitated that trade in the first place, but we'll see I guess...

I hope they do so Cronin has absolute egg on his face.

If that isn't a "how to be a competent GM 101", I don't know what would be.

Both Indianna and Milwaukee are good Jrue destinations given they're both in a rut with Dame + Hali injured next year. But 3 years of Jrue at his age isn't ideal for a contender.

Which is why Cronin completely failed on the trade value front.

Indiana has Myles to pay this offseason - no chance they take on Jrue's contract.

MIL might be in play - but they have little to offer. I would want that 2031 FRP UNP if we swapped Holiday for any of their salary ballas (Including Dame).

Some notes from the Fan and Marang this afternoon regarding the trade:

*It caught Ant off-guard.
*Deal came together fairly quickly, last 3 days (aligns a bit with Goldbum).
*Teams do not care about late 2nd round picks anymore, NIL has killed the quality of the 2nd round after like 5-6 picks into the 30's (basically what I've been harping on for all the people freaking about giving up late 2nd rounders to Boston).
*Marang reached out to multiple parties directly involved in the deal (couldn't say on-record who because deal is not finalized yet) and they both flatly denied the "pissed" report. Would Jrue rather be on a contender? Sure at his age, but he's not upset about being with the Blazers.
*Jrue not coming off the bench as a mentor, team still believes in his talent and he's here to be a starter - Scoot and Sharpe get to fight over the final starting spot.

I would assume Holiday, Deni, Toumani, Grant and Ayton are the starters, pending any significant moves. Who are they bumping for Scoot or Sharpe?

I will hope he's as wrong as he has been about other stuff re: the starting. It would be so dumb to put him as a starter.

The running expectation is the Blazers have another move or two to make soon over the next 48hrs.

I'm holding off on worrying about starting 5 until the dust settles.

I really really hope Holiday and Grant come off the bench. Holiday to give minutes to the kids we invested such high pick on and Grant because he is clearly inferior to Camara and Deni. The rotation should be -

G - Scoot / Holiday
G - Sharpe / Holiday
F - Camara / Thybulle
F - Deni / Grant
C - Ayton / Clingan

+ RWIII getting spot minutes and the pick hopefully getting a bit of run.

I actually would be surprised if that is NOT the opening day Top-9. Think we are basically done given the clear win-now direction. If we do make another move I expect it to be using Ayton and/or Grant as ballast, including 11 / future picks and going for a win now fake needle mover (Lauri, Sabonis, etc).

Barring that I think todays roster is close to opening day.

Grant

I would be very surprised if Billups did that. If Holiday and Grant are both on the team opening day I think the expectation is that they are the senior most veterans and will get the majority of touches and shot opportunities.

Not that I agree, because I'm pretty upset with the team right now, but that would be in line with what they have been doing.

Send Holiday, Grant, and Ayton to Milwaukee for Lillard, Kuzma, and Connaughton. Keep Connaughton or just waive him. Lillard and Kuzma expire one-yeae prior to Grant and Holiday so that's a win. The Blazers also take back less than they sending. SPOTRAC trade checker says it works. The Blazers can suck for another year, then get a lotto pick, as well as the Orlando pick next summer. Then the Blazers look to move forward after that.

No. Thats terrible.

Holiday >> Dame
Grant > Kuzma
Ayton >> Pat

Yes the contracts are not good, but portland has the better players here

I can't argue about the better players. However, I'm all about saving a year in contracts (and a whole lot of money), but adding one more lotto pick and moving forward in another year or two.

Giannis needs help and who else would take on Lillard's contract? Jrue, Grant, Giannis, and Ayton could go far in a depleted Eastern Conference next season. Milwaukee needs to do something to keep Giannis and I don't think they have very many options.

Holiday in return makes zero sense as we still have 10 roster spots not occupied by centers in the modern NBA.
I don't have a cool avatar image because Dame came home.
