get mogbo to shoot literally a million 3 point shots this offseason..if he can be a decent 3 point shooter(which he actually showed some glimpses of) him and CMB are going to terrorize benches this year.

I think this is the first time in years I’m left shaking my head at a draft pick. I will probably never understand the logic of reaching way down for a safe pick just because of fit, and not drafting potential and talent and swinging for the fences with one of maybe 3 18 year old prospects. This team needed to swing for the fences.

Of course it's BPA, but I dont like the argument "figure things later out" for me thats an excuse. That does not work with our Managment for a couples of years now, things getting worse every year.
Like I said, I like him as a player, but think he would be better somewhere else, on a more balanced roster where he can excell and flourish.
But I'm hoping things will work out, looking forward for today's pick and the summer league

Barring a trade, I am not so sure Mogbo is part of the rotation. By my count, there are 10 guys ahead of him in the rotation, and that's without including the backup C that I hope and trust we are going to get, somehow.

Having CMB practice a million shots right away with poor mechanics is a baaaad idea.

I actually think CMB was the best player on the draft board we could choose from... not sure there are so many of you upset.

i think if he can be decent from deep hes 100% part of the rotation, hes an amazing defender.

The pick doesn't make sense with the current roster. Barnes, Poeltl and CMB is horrific spacing wise

The two best defenders in the draft have pretty similar frames and measurables. CMB has the shorter neck.
Flagg 6’7.5 barefoot. So 6’9 rounded up in shoes.
CMB 6’6.5 barefoot so, 6’8 rounded up in shoes.
Flagg Weight: 221lbs
CMB weight: 239lbs
Flagg max vert: 35.5 inches
CMB max vert: 34.5 inches
Flagg wingspan: 7 feet
CMB wingspan: 7 feet
Flagg standing reach: 8’10.5
CMB standing reach: 8’10.5
The height difference is mostly neck also. Which is why they’re so similar elsewhere. Neck height is one of the least meaningful for the sport. So they’re similarly sized and athletically.
Flagg was considered a generational defensive talent. We added one also.

GMs that draft for need find themselves out of a job quickly.
Harper is a terrible fit in SA but they drafted him anyway because he’s a great talent. They’ll figure out fit later. Masai will do the same.
+1 You always draft BPA. Roster turnover can be rapid in the NBA.
I followed this draft closer than I've followed any in the last 5-7 years. There was no clear better player than CMB at that pick.
Yeah it's funny because in a vacuum I'd bet most fans would say draft BPA in this range. But then the selection happens and you have a bunch of posters asking about vision, or how he's gonna work Jonathan Mogbo! Who cares?!The roster will likely look completely different in 3 years even if we're still competing.

We got CMB, what’s the point of whining we didn’t take X Y or Z when in reality none of us know **** about prospects (and the ones who pretend to are full of ****)
Also, why would people talk about Essgenue in CMB thread?
To complain. Which to YP's point is sometimes just not people's cup of tea.
To me, I can't control this. Masai has a fantastic drafting record. Funny that I see a few of the same names that claimed Barnes was a disaster pick.
It's okay to just not know and wait to see what happens.
I don’t have a problem taking BPA. If that’s CMB that’s fine. Here’s the thing with the Barnes draft comp: Barnes had a lot of fit questions and we were told to take a “wait and see” approach. What happened? His fit with our best player (Siakam) didn’t work out, the team slogged along and eventually the team had to be remodeled.
Drafting a non-shooting PF whose game doesn’t fit with our current max salary, face of the franchise PF. We’ve seen this story before. All current signs point to this team not working and that’s not exactly encouraging considering we just put together this version of the roster.
We went BPA. BPA also happens to probably be the worst possible fit with the “face of franchise”. That kills some of the excitement.

Lots of ppl had CMB top 5 and analytically I believe he was top 3. He has 2 elite skills already, if he develops a shot he has an extremely high ceiling. Just because he has a high floor, doesn't mean he doesn't have an extremely high ceiling.

CMB is built for playoff basketball; good at the half-court, tough and can finish with contact.
And for those who are worried about the overlap between Mogbo and CMB; Mogbo was a 2nd rounder whose best scenario is a bench big off the bench; hardly something to be worried about (can always flip Mogbo if one is worried).

Nailed it. At his best, he's going to be a great role player, which is fine for a 9th pick, but given our circumstances and lacking a true go-to player, we needed to swing for the fences. I'm also failing to see a long term fit on offence between CMB, Scottie, Jak, and Ingram, that is a spacing nightmare.

Really? You couldn’t possibly see why some might question his fit with Barnes (and to a lesser extend Poeltl)?

I like Poeltl as a person, high character and professional but we really need a stretch 5 in the starting 5. I don’t mind a Poeltl type of player off the bench but not beside Scottie in the starting 5.

Harry Palmer wrote:He might have just reacted strangely, but for people saying he wouldn’t have worked out with us if he didn’t want to be here, you are assuming he felt like he had that kind of leverage. That’s the kind of thing consensus top 2-3 picks can maybe afford to do, and even then it comes with a risk/cost. Guys ranked mid-to-low lottery generally just suck it up and go wherever they were drafted.
Toronto’s a great city, though, and plenty of guys who weren’t wild about the idea of coming here end up loving it. Otoh to many Americans Toronto might as well be on the moon. Americans generally know and care little about the world outside of the U.S. and with Trump’s crap lately there is growing antipathy to Canada. If that’s the case there’s not much we can do about it, but meanwhile he has very little leverage; what agency players get mainly come into play when they hit the market, before that it’s damned near indentured servitude, albeit richly rewarded.
Or it might not be as much hating Toronto as having had a strong preference/hope for a specific team and we were not that team. If so he’s even less likely to be a problem, he had to realize that going to your top choice was a long shot, although maybe he was getting ‘if you’re there at ___ we’re picking you’ conversations which might have raised his hopes. But at the end of the day it’s a business, and unless he’s an idiot he realizes that much, and I expect that he’ll do and say all the right things for at least a while. His dream came mostly true, he’s a lottery pick playing in the NBA, he’s probably been imagining this for many years.
I don’t expect a problem unless the Raptors were incompetent in their assessments of his character/personality.
Also Phoenix just acquired that pick and they were right behind us. I’m sure he was hoping for that, warm weather and no one on that roster to really compete with for minutes.

if masai and co feel that he has something to unlock scoring wise, then that's a high potential guy with an already high floor as an awesome defender.

CMB's stats and physical profile look pretty similar to Kawhi's coming out of San Diego State... just saying.
