Re: Draft Day Shenanigans (IV)
Thiero would be a huge pickup. There’s still a ton of potential there as he was a former point guard who shot up to 6’7. Had a season shooting 80% from FT. Injury concerns are real, but he showed quite a bit last year as a scorer when that hasn’t really been his game at Kentucky.

Or, and this is a wild idea, Morey could make a trade and get both of them.
I think we only have one roster spot left considering we usually go with only 14. Pick #35 will be it.
If they opt in, and they all probably will; Oubre, Drummond, and especially Gordon are all expendable.

Broome or Kalkbrenner.Phillybul wrote:Lou_23 wrote:Broome, Fleming, Raynaud,Penda, Kalkbrenner, we can draft a interesting frontcourt player with the 35
Anyone u like in particular?
I think they can be 15-20 minutes bench players since their first season.

We'll have to pay up to move them. I don't see it happening in the offseason. More likely they serve as salary ballast for a midseason trade.

Drummond and three future 2nds to CHA for 32. Tie it into the Mark Williams trade to PHX.

Raynaud was a guy I felt was being deeply underrated because he certainly had some juice to his game. His lack of rim protection will require him to be a PF though.

Re: Draft Day Shenanigans (IV)
I like Broome at 35. I know Broome has his issues, but he's got that Paul Millsap/Carlos Boozer vibe to him. Those guys slipped to the 2nd round for the same reasons he did. I also think the rebounding carries over. Broome had his best games in the biggest moments of the tournament. To me that carries weight, and I think he'll surprise some people at the next level. That being said, I don't think he's on our radar. Fleming will be gone right away, otherwise he's the guy I like the most. I'm a big Chaz Lanier fan, but he's probably not a fit here at this time. Also like Jamir Watkins out of Florida State, but it's possible we get him as an UDFA.

Morey said last night that Embiid would probably be ready for training camp. He had arthroscopic surgery in April. September would make that 5 months. Not great if that's a "probably" situation. If his knee is responding to the surgery, arthroscopic cleanout procedures should be a little over a month in recovery.

I would try to get a PF. I trust Bonna as our backup C.

Re: Draft Day Shenanigans (IV)
I am happy with the VJ pick. I was still hoping up until the pick was made that Spurs would swap with us. If that failed I wanted a trade down to snare Coward/Fleming/Clifford, etc.
After watching VJ's reaction and his presser; I am all on board with VJ. Morey has struck gold finding kids who give a damn. Maxey, McCain and VJ are all culture setters and it can't be stated just how important those guys really are for winning playoff basketball. Guys like, Alex Caruso and TJ McConnell showed that in these finals.
I think the guard rotation will go Maxey/Grimes followed by McCain/VJ. The McCain/VJ pairing is a perfect fit as they each compliment covering up the other's weaknesses. As VJ matures, I could see him moving up with Maxey or maybe going a 3 guard lineup with VJ moon-lighting as a wing against smaller lineups.
The only thing I want to see tonight is Morey trading up to the 1st pick and getting Fleming to give us a high motor monstrously long rim protector and rebounder that might just have flashed a consistent outside shot.
BTW, Bodner and Kyle were both really good dudes to meet and spent a good bit of time during their on-air commercial breaks chatting PHLY fans up and avidly discussing their scouting analysis with us.

That table looks none too happy about the VJ pick. Was that the Ace table?

Mik317 wrote:who fits the Morey mold that is left
I don't think he's going to take one of the slow 7 footers or another guard, given our backlog.
I'd say we're probably looking at below. We need a true PF who can shoot and rebound, in case they play with Bona or Drummond.
1) Rasheer Fleming - Would be shocked if he's not taken before us
2) Bogoljub Markovic - I think this is the most likely pick
3) Johni Broome - Could play minutes right away, but wouldn't be able to share the court with Bona or Drummond. Lack of shooting.
UDFA's:
1) Grant Nelson
2) Eric Dixon
3) Viktor Lakhin

I think they're going to ramp him up then. I doubt he's playing in those early preseason games. Same surgeon as Kawhi and he waited 6 months
