I'm trying to think of other players who took half the salary they were under contract for.

I'm guessing his agent must have clued him into the fact that his previous contract was only to help Houston reach the salary floor during their rebuild and he'll never get that much money again from any team under the new CBA. With that in mind, perhaps he feels it's not worth potentially uprooting his family just for the chance of taking slightly less of a paycut elsewhere.

FVV was not oblivious to the fact that Houston overpaid him due to their salary situation. He also isn't oblivious (or at least his agent won't be) to the new CBA, his actual market value and his drop in production.

He gets a 1/1 where in total he makes the amount back, but he gets to try and prove that he deserves more and can opt out to test the market. As a free agent, no one is going to give him more than $25 million, and certainly no good team.

Derrick White's new contract starts at $28M and Holiday's extension at $30M, and those are 6'3/6'4 guards compared to 6'0 FVV, so one has to be realistic

He was the starting guard on a 50-win team. He had a good playoffs series and when he was injured late in the season, the team struggled.

So he's the main playmaker on a good playoffs team, which now some people are saying should be a WC contender with KD.

You can have all the shot makers but you still need playmakers.

Certainly, and they have him and Sengun, but everyone, including him knew Houston overpaid for him, maybe he's giving them a discount due to that. He also had a down year, 7 playoff games in the first round don't erase that.

I don't know what the market would look like for him in this free agency, but his agent would have looked. Now he has a chance to play a year with a possible contending roster and play for more money next off season.

Man, Denver managed to get out of Porter's contract ... for a first round pick seven years from now

Read on Twitter

And they got Cam Johnson. And they save $37 million over the next two years.

Denver getting Cam Johnson to me is an upgrade over MPJ.. more stable and cagier and balanced player, not as long as MPJ but still.

Very good move by them. Along with their other depth moves.

Antetokounmpo is under contract with the Bucks for at least the next two seasons. After playing beside Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez when they won the title in 2021, followed by Damian Lillard and Lopez over the past two seasons, Antetokounmpo now enters a new era with a core of Turner, Kyle Kuzma, Gary Trent Jr. and Kevin Porter Jr.

"Giannis, I believe, is looking for reasons to stay in Milwaukee," said Windhorst. "That's one of the reasons he has stepped back and let them go through their process.

"If Giannis was looking for a reason to stay in Milwaukee, this was enough of a reason to be excited about coming back."

I don't understand this at all.. it would be/is delusional and misguided. None of those guys are even close to a third option other than Kuzma (when he is on his game), and he really isn't consistently at that level either anymore in awhile. Everyone else is a 4th option or less.

Defensively, other than Turner, no one is an impact player.

So Milwaukee essentially has declined off from their contending core; attempt to rebuild that (since Lillard came); and now, are "all good" because they got Myles Turner (and retained Portis).

Like what? No.

I will add the quotes from BW were from before they found out it was waiving Lillard, and further developed... 11m-fwd:

Makes more sense.. but still, I don't expect Giannis to really feel good about the Bucks contending till they make more moves. They ain't even close to contending, even in the East. Be out in R1 again, or play in, at best.

And yes, please Bucks, go get Chris Paul :P

Small, but noteworthy.

Averaged 11.5 ppg and 4.9 apg with the Sixers after getting traded. 24 years old. Underrated, IMO. He'll help Phoenix.
