The biggest question is why? There is absolutely nothing to like about this organization. It’s time for this loyalty to end.

If I only knew the answer.

Habit and only to I retire. I do not emotionally invest anymore. Drose was the last player that had me believe in this pathetic franchise.

Bulls traded 2nd round picks in 2026 and 2027. No cash involved.

My bad might just be deng surprisingly

I believe in that same draft they gave up cash for the Chris Duhon pick. So .. 21 years

Do the Lakers have any future 2nd round picks?

Yeah I'd we had any worthwhile journalists, this would be the framing.

Been 20 years since we traded cash away. And how many times have we received cash in a deal?

Teams can send and receive 7M in cash separately in trades every season and it resets the next year. It's inconsequential. Might as well be monopoly money.

It means nothing towards the likelihood a player is going to better than the other in the 2nd round. LA just moved up essentially for nothing. Any team would do that.

I remember we had a run of like 4 straight trades of getting cash. Some IIRC weren't even involving picks, just player for player plus cash

Not every team would do it because some teams are actually targeting players. The Lakers did it bc it makes it more likely they get a player they want.

Has no effect on the cap.

Straight to the pockets for vacation money, or down-payment on a 5th yacht.

If that's the case then that certainly is cheap. Granted, if they believe they can get a vet min guy who can be more useful for the franchise then I can understand not putting resources into an end of bench player in the hopes of striking gold. But there are always diamonds in the rough every year in the second round so it would be nice if they swung for the fences.

Thanks for all of you who inspired The Kool Aid thread.

The Bulls looked at their roster and could see that #45 wasn't going anywhere near the big club roster. They can take the same guy to go straight to the G League at #55 and get some cash. Did you ever think they might take that cash and sign some guy who gets cut as soon as free agency starts? I guess nobody else looks at anything beyond how to get KD or Giannis.

Agreed. My attitude is: Who cares? We have a full roster, developing players and major efforts to make trades this summer. We don’t need to worry about pick #45.

In that event, you trade the pick for a future 2nd.

Case in point, San Antonio traded their 2nd round pick this year for a future 2nd.

He might be able to trade 55 for a future second still. All he really did was take cash to move down, not to sell the pick. Maybe to people who actually deal with money, the difference in the likely success rate between 45 and 55 isn't worth getting say $3 mill and saving another mill or two for a player that won't play. In the real world, millions of dollars mean something, even to billionaires. Maybe when we get cash, they feel they can spend more money elsewhere, even if it doesn't go directly to the cap. Or we can assume AK is greedy to get money that's not even coming to him, lol. I doubt "cash considerations" go to AK.

Only way greed comes into the picture is if the owner orders it, or the unlikely event AK gets some kind of huge bonus for those types of trades.
