Does anyone by chance have the link to that one draft database that had CMB ranked 3# overall?
Seemed analytics leaning with BPM etc. I think someone posted yesterday I cant find the link thanks!

We never were gonna get a guaranteed 2-way guy at 9. You gotta take someone good at one or the other and develop.
This is so true and overlooked. OG and Siakam both are examples of this. They had the motor and defensive skills to start and both were a bit raw offensively. Offense developed and they became all-NBA (all-NBA defence for OG) type guys. Then you have guys like Dick, or high pick guys like Bagley/Beasley/Ayton etc who were offensive powers and just never developed that defensive skill/BBIQ needed to stay on the floor.
Of course, you also have pure defense guys like Biyombo who never developed enough of an O game to stay on the floor - but for all his flaws, Biyombo still carved out a 14 year NBA career. Bagley is 25 and it looks like his NBA career is almost over. 4 teams in 7 years. Beasley played on 7 teams in 11 years. They just couldn't find a fit whether because of bad defense and/or low team BBIQ.
It's almost impossible to take a really bad defender (unless they are insanely inexperienced/ raw) & turn them into a good defender.......but we have seen time & time again that you can take a non-shooter & turn them into a shooter. It's worth the risk.
If you take a guy like Scottie or OG or CMB & get their 3pt shooting % up to 36+%, then you have a championship calibre player to work with & potentially and allstar.

* Props to the man, the myth, the legend......TZ.

Ingram, Barnes, Barrett, Walter, CMB, Ochai
Then you have Battle, Dick, Lawson, Mogbo, Rhoden & Quick can play some 2.
11 players on the roster can legit play the 2 and/ or 3. They are set up pretty well to deal with injuries this season.
They need more bigs though. I would also like to see Walter get some PG minutes.
Extra poor man's Shai

The front office acts really chummy with these guys. The open gym stuff tries to potray them as one big happy family. In reality they would pivot off any one of these guys if it means getting just a little bit better.
Someone once told me the difference between an American and a Canadian is an American would risk 100 dollars to make 10 and the Canadian wouldn't. Definitely feels like we have an American front office in that sense.
Lmao what are you talking about bro this is professional sports not full house their job is to win games. Acting like masai/bobby are the only FO execs to trade players
Yea that's what I'm talking about.

Having both Shead and CMB defending our bench unit should be fun.
Hopefully Chomche will be fully recovered by Summer League time.

This is kind of true.
What we've seen is that you can usually convert someone into an acceptable C+S option in the corner. Learning to shoot more than just open corner 3s is a very different proposition.

They might be molding Scottish Barnes to be the SF in the squad if CMB becomes a starter eventually

Dick would go higher in a redraft for sure.
He's a work in progress defensively, but offensively he's been showing a lot of promise.

Doesn’t this imply a “throw sh*t at the wall approach”? It doesn’t exactly speak to much confidence in the current team when they draft a guy who is extremely similar (and a bad fit) with the current franchise player.
No, it means they probably have a baseline for discovering guys that can stick in the NBA and that usually results in playing better than their draft position.I don’t understand the how they can draft a guy “who plays the way they want” while also being a really bad fit with other players on the roster. How much does play style matter when you’re compromising the end results due to poorly fitting pieces? “I know we’re playing the way we want to but unfortunately we can’t shoot at all and it’s really hurting our offense”. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
Rosters change frequently. We did draft two high volume 3PT shooters in the last two first rounds, so those guys made it through the filter, too.
We’re talking about big roster changes though. Like move off of Barnes and Poeltl type changes.
In a vacuum the CMB pick is fine. I trust the FO as far as drafting goes. What someone needs to ask them is “if CMB never learns how to shoot do you think it’s tenable that he and Barnes can play together? And if not, what does that mean for Barnes future?”
The odds are against CMB becoming a good shooter and if that’s the case this team doesn’t work. How does the FO reconcile this with their commitment to Barnes?
Depends if they can win while playing together. Also, moving off Poeltl isn't a significant change.
If CMB can't play, it's a bust pick. If he can, but it's just a weak offense, then again it's about whether they can still net out a positive result.

Which is why they stick to this recipe even if you miss a few, the odds are on your side

Would he? Everyone ahead of him still goes outside Walker/Howard/Hendricks and even then, they still might. From behind Dick I take Podz, JJJ, Camara, maybe Sheppard

Drummond blew up and then fizzled out quickly. That was good scouting.
Drummond was a 2x all-star by age 24 and averaged about 16/15 over his first 7 seasons earning a max contract after his rookie deal. He would have had significantly more trade value than Ross, or maybe JV is traded earlier who also would have had more value than Ross.
Avoiding a guy who started to fizzle out in his 8th season out isn't good scouting.
Yeah or maybe he was always an immature kid who could put up numbers on bad teams.
By his 7th season he was traded for a 2nd rounder. TRoss was traded for Serge Ibaka and JV was traded for Marc Gasol.
All-stars don’t put up numbers on bad teams. Teams have to be at least competitive as the SVG led Pistons were to get an AS selection.

Scottie needs to develop something which lets him stick on the floor with another non-shooter besides Yak, aka a shot. Until that happens, he is who he is.
